Why is video is such a big thing on the Internet and how can video marketing convert traffic? I used to be wondering the same thing until I realized that video marketing is basically another form of article marketing in 2011, however people enjoy watching videos far more than reading. If I had the choice of reading an article or watching a video I know which one I would choose. This is not being lazy, it’s just that video is far more entertaining.
Using video marketing to convert traffic is very popular now days and you are at a disadvantage if you are not using video to your advantage right now.
What is video marketing?
Video marketing is a not so new way to get your message across on the Internet. No longer are the long sales letters appealing to the buyer, as they now people want to see animation and action. They are obsessed with multimedia as many computers are equipped to handle all of this. Video marketing does not always mean that you have to sell something either, as it could be marketing to get traffic to your website. How can video marketing convert traffic?
By converting traffic, I mean turning a simple website visitor into taking the action that your webpage was built for. For example you might send people to a sign up page, and if they completed that action, then they have been converted. If you send them to a page selling an e-book and they buy, then they have been converted also.
Video marketing can convert traffic because it can also capture the visitors attention more quickly than the written word. If a person takes the time to watch a video, shows interest in the subject, and if they actually go to click the link afterwards, then this is highly targeted traffic. The video marketing conversion rate depends on what is on your landing page. As we mentioned above, it is best to have one purpose or required action in mind for each page.
Also your Youtube success is an important part to exploding your conversion rate and this is why I would like to mention some video marketing tips that I use every day.
Video marketing tips
- Do not make your videos too long as people lose interest after the first 2 min. People on the Internet do not have a long attention span and we all know that!
- Do keyword research when you are listing your video so you can find the best Youtube video title that will bring you more traffic.
- Watch your stats on your videos and be prepared to change things around. For example you might have to change the title or description to get the video ranking better.
- For the best video marketing that converts traffic, you will need to make a series of videos, uploaded on a regular basis to attract followers. An odd video here and there does not convert traffic.
- Make sure you have a call to action in your video that clearly pushes people to click on your link. Make an offer that they cannot refuse.
- Create different Yube channels for different topics. For example if you have videos about building websites and cooking cakes in the same channel your website visitors and converstions will be less targeted.
Video marketing conclusion:
Do not spam video sharing websites with mass produced junk. Just like the Google Panda update, there will be consequences in the future for people who upload these kinds of videos. Save yourself the time and money and do not do it. If you have problems making a video my solution is to use PowerPoint slides to create video. This works great and I have actually submitted videos like this myself.
Video marketing is an important tool in your marketing efforts. Take the time to tweak your results and you could be sitting on a gold mine. When I first started and video marketing I had no idea how popular it would become.

I have noticing lately the shift to video marketing. Videos seem to increase conversions by quite a significant amount. I wonder if this is because our world is becoming more and more fast paced that many people lack the patience to actually site and read words and would prefer to just listen to someone else speak to them (in video).

I think you would do well if you can do both. We all have to move with the times and video is part of our future on the internet.

I use video marketing, and it is my single largest traffic and conversion generator. The increase is attributed to many things, mainly to the Mobile market. My channel not only delivers a video presentation of the products I showcase, but also leaves them wanting more so they click the link to learn more and purchase the product. And now they can do this all from there phone. How cool is that…. Great article Mitz.

You have to make the viewers mouth water for more information or promise them your free giveaway.. Anything to get them to click on your link. It is the “call to action” that people often forget. Tell them to click your link below the video and tell them what the benefits will be.
I get hundreds of visitors a day from my Youtube videos. But when you get this traffic they buy more and click on more advertising. Very targeted!
I am HUGE on video marketing, I get great enjoyment out of making the videos themselves, but I also agree wholeheartedly with your article. The main benefit with video to me is that you can use it to both build and reinforce your brand. It gives you a way to gain trust with your visitor. I have found great response from video and it works for me, but it does require a little bit of up front investment in the infrastructure to produce decent quality work. I bought a tool called VidBlaster that I use to both do live streaming and to record video for editing, mainly because it has awesome chroma key ability that uses the video card to do chroma keying. I’ve gotten good enough now that in under an hour I can produce a short video that looks like Fox News.

Videos are definitely great marketing materials these days, especially with the popularity of video sharing sites such as YouTube. Anyway, I have yet to use this method seriously since I am not really good in creating good quality videos.

Hi Mitz. How long does it take you to produce a video typically, and also what are your thoughts on Animoto slide show software? I know a lot of businesses use Animoto to create slide shows of their product catalogs, but I guess this could be considered borderline spam in the future. Should they be creating more informational and how to type slide shows instead?

I did look at Animoto but I did think it was kind of spam. BUT…Of course if you spend a little more time perfecting your video with Animoto then it could turn out ok..
I believe the videos with slides shows that have more pictures than information are spam.. If you can manage to give great info then I think it is ok.

I use Animoto – it makes fantastic promotional videos akin to a commercial. They are more for eliciting an emotional response than for imparting information. It’s also great to use just for fun. I take family photos and make topical videos – I recently did one of my niece’s baptism and it is priceless.

People are always asking do you have a video or can you make one instead. I agree video is pretty big right now. I just lose patience with trying to make the thing. I tried making some, but I either messed up or didn’t like the way it turned out. So it was time consuming and I eventually decided I better stick with text/writing for the time being. I know a lot of people have excellent results with video marketing though. Just wish I had more patience to make them.

If you look at any of my videos they are in no way perfect…But if I didn’t just put them up there I would not have the business I have today. My first video on my Youtube channel is soooo bad but someone told me it was good so I continued to make videos… ( Thank God for that person )
It does not have to be perfect to work well. People actually like to see that you are human and can make mistakes.
You have to have thick skin to publish videos to Youtube too…You get some great comments from nice people but there are also absolute psychos on there.
Maybe I put too much time and effort into quality. I just have a hard time being content with the outcome. Like anything you probably get better the more you do or produce.

I have a few Youtube channels as I am trying to focus on one subject for each. I started with one in 2007 and saw how it gave me website traffic. These visitors from Youtube want to ask questions and learn. They are very interactive.
I am a full Youtube Partner (as there a different partners) and this gets me listed in other areas on Youtube which means more traffic.
I guess this is exactly how I built my business. If you can provide video and other basic content you will beat the competition. Especially if they do not have it.

Ya usually people prefer to watch rather than read. This is because probably reading is a time consuming process and while watching its the practical part that plays the lead role and gets the viewer involved. Indeed helping both the viewer and the maker of the video . Video marketing does play one of the lead role in getting traffic to a website .

Well you can get traffic from youtube because that site have huge amount of traffic each day. Posting videos to youtube then leaving a backlink is a clever idea. This is not only applicable to youtube but to all Media sites as well.

But I have just gone back to only using Youtube because that is where ALL the traffic seems to be. I wish they were all as good as Youtube!

This really puts a (literal) face to the business and helps to personalize your company. We use videos on our website to talk about various selling points, and have gotten great feedback from clients who say the videos really add a new element to the site that ultimately made them feel comfortable with our services.

You always need to have text in your posts as having just video alone is not great for SEO. I think we will have both video and text on a page as there will always be someone who enjoys reading.

I love using video for online marketing. I find it create’s a connection with your market, that you just can’t get with written words. Unfortunately for many people they think that video is just to hard to make. So glad that you added using power-point to make video. I also find that Screenr and Jing are great tools get get people up and running as well.

I use Jing, Camstudio, and Camtasia. Haven’t tried Screenr??
I use Jing for the quick videos when I want to teach a VA something and I still use the free Camstudio for recording screen captures. I cannot help myself. I edit in Camtasia because it produces great quality. (Windows movie maker not as good)

Yup , I agree with you about video marketing , as I have seen many of my fellow blogger friends who just post crap videos getting more traffic than me….. I wasn’t sure about it , but reading your post It made me think that it may be due to Video marketing……
First step I think I must create a display video , to show my blogs appearance….just like in many sites they promote their site first with a cool appearance video and the real video after that… In the end It I would provide the link to my website , twitter ID, Facebook fan page , etc….
I hope what I mentioned above can help me…. Please let me know if I am correct….
