I just watched this video by Kim Castleberry of Just Ask Kim and I have to say, this is one thing that I’ve been doing for a long long time, ever since CommentLuv was born and used on more than 1 blog and I can’t believe more people are doing it, well done Kim!

Take a look and discover a fantastic way to network, discover new and interesting folks to exchange comments with and increase your traffic, all from your own blog as a starting point…

  1. This is a very clever entry into the contest. It is a clever idea, too. Too bad I can’t walk the dog and the blog at the same time!

Thanks Kim, this is great. I’ve been a member of CommentLuv for a few months now, but I haven’t been active because honestly it was just one more thing to do and I wasn’t sure how to use it to benefit my traffic building efforts. Up to now, I’ve sort of stuck with the same circle of blogs that I like and it’s been semi-successful in that I get some regulars, but mostly people who stop by once and then I never hear from them again. I think this tip you gave alone can help me build more of the kind of community I’ve been looking for and bring in higher traffic numbers. Thanks – I’ll be walking my blog today!!

Hi Kim, yes I’ve been leaving comments where I have something to say. It’s a nice way to get 2 backlinks actually I gather. The one in the “website” field & the latest post link, so it’s efficient.
I’ve wondered why folks install the ComLuv plugin on their blog as it just seems to attract link builders, some spammy that I then need to delete. I’ve been fairly eclectic in my commenting so haven’t noticed too many familiar faces turning up with mine.
I never get up to 10 a day, don’t have so much time but maybe one day I could go for it now you show me the top was it 10 list.
    Thanks for the tips:)

Hey Rosie! You’re exactly right about 2 links. By default commenting on a regular blog you get 1 no-follow link (the name/url link) which by default has no useful anchor text (because its just your name). Commentluv creates a second no-follow link that has anchor text thats good because its the title of the post. Then a blog like this one is running keywordluv which gives your name/url field better anchor text and is also “DoFollow” so both links become dofollow which is about 10x better for SEO than a nofollow link. Now you can see with all that sexy SEO value going on why spam rates can go up. That’s the reason I run SI Captcha (in addition to Akismet) on my blog and it really helps cut the spam while allowing me to give that link luv to the community!

Thanks for the reply Kim, I’ve read about “no follow’ & “do follow” but don’t really understand it.
Do you have a good resource that would spell it out for a dummy?
Does it mean that if I comment on a “do follow” blog that that owner will come to my blog & comment on mine? If so I don’t think I can be doing it right as the only comments I’ve ever had have been spam.
I noticed that mine is a “no-follow” blog.
Is it worth making it a “do-follow’ blog & if so any clues how to go about it?

Is SI Captcha WP plugin? Free :)
        Easy to install?
        Thanks for you tips!

The SI Captcha is a WP plugin that is free, easy to install, and if I remember correctly its settings worked by default on about 99% of themes. If you’ll stay in touch and give me a few days I’ll get a tutorial on it together since I need to make a new one for my blog anyways.

This post will probably help you understand the mechanics of the differences http://just-ask-kim.com/social-networking/blogging/what-is-dofollow-what-is-nofollow-difference/ One note is that I’ve replaced my block-spam-by-math plugin with si captcha recently and havent updated that post. You’re certainly not a dummy, dofollow confuses a TON of bloggers! Leave questions on that post if you like and I’ll gladly answer them.

DoFollow means the link value is worth more SEO value. It means you get more points from google for those links, and they’re more likely to help you rank in the search results. It is not an “I Comment Back” policy. There is no plugin that would create that although some that do it personally have a little image/badge on their blog that tells you they do. Most don’t. “I Comment Back” is more honor based, there’s no way a plugin could create that. I wish there was a plugin that would comment on others blogs for me, that would be to fun ;) (Not that I could get away with using it but it might help me have more hours in the day!)

          Does that help?

  6. Hi Kim,
I love comluv and I love commenting on fellow comluv bloggers’ posts. Tribe syndication is a great way to think of the practice of comlov commenting! I could do a better job of following up on visiting bloggers who leave their links in comments on my posts. What goes around comes around in our commentluv circle of LOVE. Great Ninja Secrets!:D

Backlink Tip: this is something new I’ve added to share link love – it’s called TGIF Links – Vote and Comment, Share a link of your own. (see post link below for details)

Ahhh you smart smart girl Cheryl! Using a tactic of recommending one of your own links that’s relevent to the topic! I didn’t get a chance in this video to go into the nitty gritty of improving click through but you just nailed it! I totally understand needing to improve follow through and comment-back. It’s so easy to get tangled up with not having enough time out here and get overwhelmed! (Well at least it is for me! LOL) Thanks hun!

Hey Kim, thanks for this information. I installed commentluv about 30 minutes ago and am going to get up tomorrow morning and walk my little blogs legs off thanks to you! Prepare to see me in the list of super commenters. It would be great to meet more bloggers and build up some friendships, I feel kind of like I’m blogging to no one at the moment! Still, I’m loving it and hoping to learn how to do it better through people like you :)

Great video and tips. I joined commentluv just now and think it is very useful. I was fed up of leaving a comment on 1 page of a blog and 2 days later finding I had 800 backlinks, as the comment had been posted on to every url on a site – bad as my site went into Google orbit. I have heard arguments for the theory that Google do not always ignore ‘no follow’.
