My name is Milica Pantic (aka Mitz) and I am a serial full-time blogger. I started out with one website many years ago and it went so well, I sold my businesses and began living the internet dream. Since then I have been perfecting the system of blogging and building Wordpress websites to earn money online. This is an ever changing business and I love the challenge. One of the unwritten and often unspoken rules about blogging is a very simple one: It’s all about the relationships. Relationships with other bloggers can be an invaluable source of support, encouragement”¦and traffic. As your relationships with other bloggers grow, so will your blog readers.
Not sure where to start? Keep on reading for some tips about how to establish the relationships you need to help your blog grow.
Read blogs
It might seem strange to suggest that you increase your readership by reading the blogs of others. Yet this one simple step is crucial in building relationships with other bloggers. Find other bloggers who share your topic and start reading what they have to say. This will be beneficial on a number of levels. First, it will help you get a sense for what’s already out there, what people really respond to, and how other people run their blogs. Look for two types of blogs: those you love, even if they are small and fledgling, and large successful blogs with a number of followers and lots of comments. Follow them on a regular basis to get a true sense for who they are and how they work. Then, when you get to know them, start adding comments to their posts.
Comment, comment, comment!
If you aren’t already commenting on the blogs of other people, it can seem strange and sometimes a bit intimidating to do so. To help you break the ice, it’s important to remember that bloggers love comments. As long as your comment relates directly to the post on which you are commenting, it will be welcome. Although you don’t need to stress too much about the content of your comment, it is important to try to make your comment thoughtful, interesting, or witty. This is important because your comment will serve as a little teaser about who you are. If people like it, they’ll check out your blog. If they don’t, they’ll just skim on by.
The more you comment, the more bloggers will make the trek over to your blog. If those bloggers enjoy your blog, a number of things might happen. First, of course, they’ll read and comment on your own blog, which is just plain fun. More importantly, though, they might link to your blog permanently on theirs, listing it as a blog they enjoy reading. This will increase website traffic to your blog on a regular basis, through the blog of another. Other bloggers might also enjoy a post of yours so much that they link it in a post of theirs, again sending readers your way. Commenting opens up a wide variety of roads back to your blog.
Check Back
After you’ve commented on a blog, keep checking back to see if your comment receives a response or a question, either from the blogger or another reader. (If you have the new Commentluv Premium plugin you will be able to see if you are getting clicks on your comments.) You’ll also want to check in on the other comments and see what others had to say. Some blogs have a way of subscribing to comments, which is an easy way to stay involved with the discussion after you’ve left your comment. If you have something else to say, either to the blogger or to other readers, say it! I can’t say it enough-bloggers eat up comments. They love it when post of theirs sparks a discussion, so comment
away on the comments of others. The more you do, the more people will want to know more about you.
Explore
Take the time to explore the blogs of other people who comment on a blogger you enjoy. You’ll often find new blogs you enjoy. Add them to your list, comment on their posts, and watch as an online community starts to develop. Not only is it good for your blog, but it’s a pretty cool feeling to be connected to a wide variety of people across time and space, all while sitting on your couch typing on a laptop.
Link up to build blogging relationships
As you read the blogs of others, look for blogs and posts that you really like. When you find one, think about the possibility of writing a post that incorporates that person’s post. It’s polite to ask permission, of course, and you can do this in a comment or an e-mal to the blog author. Once you have permission, publish your post, and link to the other person’s blog or blog post. The other blogger will enjoy the traffic you send her way, and you’ll have established another important relationship along the way.
Offer to guest post
Guest posting is another excellent way to both build relationships and skyrocket your blog traffic fast. When you guest post, you write a blog post that another blogger publishes on their blog. It might seem strange at first-after all, why would you put in all the time and effort to write a post, only to have another blogger post it? As strange as it may seem, though, guest posting can be a very effective way blogging tool. First, it helps solidify a relationship with another blogger, and if you haven’t picked up on it by now, I’ll say it again: Relationships are very important in the blogging world. What’s more, when you guest post, all of the readers who normally read the blog of another person are suddenly reading your post and are interested in reading your blog. Everyone benefits from a guest post!
Relationships with Readers
Finally, it is important to build and maintain relationship with your own readers. When people comment on your blog, use the opportunity to connect with that person. Make comments back. If the person has a blog, go check it out, read a post or two, and leave a comment. Don’t make your comment one that says, “thanks for the comment on my blog.” Doing so makes it obvious that you left the comment for yourself, not them, and nobody wants to be in relationship that’s all about one person. Getting your comments approved is not rocket science. When you comment on another person’s blog, make sure your comment is relevant to that person’s blog or the post. It’s the polite thing to do and the best way to start building real relationships that will be valued by your readers.
It’s as true in the blogging world as it is in real life-relationships take time to grow. You won’t develop new friends overnight; it’ll take time to feel your way into this new space and join hands with others. If you follow these tips, though, you’ll see some pretty awesome relationships start to grow and wind their way through the vast space that is the Internet. Over the years I have made some amazing blogging relationships and guest posting and commenting on Comluv.com is a great place to start!
