Be An Affiliate Marketer – A Day In My Life

Hi, I am Michael Wong and a recent father. I have been figuring how to make affiliate marketing money 7 years ago. During the process, I have gained some success, learn the process, loss money and failed the business. But I refuse to give up. I stayed on and worked my bud off. I continue to look for better ways to make things happen. I can only say you will learn a lot when you want to build something without resources. In the process I also learn about branding, managing finance and became a better marketer...

Be An Affiliate Marketer – A Day In My Life

Do you wonder how the day of to be an affiliate marketer is? Well, I can give you a sneak peek but I have to tell you before hand that,

I am not making huge money.

I don’t have a Nissan GTR. Yet.

I don’t have a big house with a personal gym room and Olympic size swimming pool. How I wish I do. :)

To be frank, what I have now is the online income that is just enough for me to work at home and take care of the baby. With that being said, my wife is still working for others and experiencing the kind of disturbing things you get when you are in a job. I expect that she can resign and work at home (on what she likes) too probably in another 4-6 months.

So you see, I am just like you (so do all successful affiliate marketers when they started their affiliate marketing business) working the way to be a successful affiliate marketer. But in the near future, I believe we will be able to reach our goal.

So if you still want to see how my day is, then read on

To Be An Affiliate Marketer? Start The Morning Right

My days usually started with the baby cries and then are the chores to clean, feed and set him down in his walker. Once those are done, only I am able to start my computer and the 1st thing I do is to check my email to see how much I have made for my affiliate marketing business.

Sometime when I look at those wonderful emails, I will recall the time when I have to bang myself to the wall because my email was full with training, sales offer and other stuff instead of sales confirmation.

I think some of you can relate…

Once the fun of checking with the numbers is done, is time to read the emails from my outsource team. If you have been reading my post here, you should know that I also drive traffic with solo ads, banner ads, article marketing and other outsourcing stuff. I have to spend time reviewing the result and the delivered work from the freelancers. I’ll need to manage the portals and outsource talents for anything that need to be fixed.

I am lucky that thing is smoother now compare to the early days when I started outsourcing and building my team. At that time, I have to constantly communicate with the freelancers to get them to see what I want. It was a huge hassle.

Freelancers come and go because we can’t seem to understand each other. If you are doing the same thing now, I recommend you have a video chat using Gmail and share documents with Google Docs to get things done more effectively.

Nappy Noon

Usually when I finish the reviewing job, it is almost noon and I should have brought the baby in and out of his walker for a few times to play and change his diaper. So, it is time to prepare lunch for the little boy and me. Once we

have lunch, is usually nap time for both of us.

Life as an affiliate marketer is tough.

To be an affiliate marketer with a baby around is even more challenging. That’s why I need my nap time too.

One good thing about the baby boy is that he can only stay asleep for an hour or so during noon. This makes him a wonderful alarm clock. :)

Once I settled him after we woke up, it is time to put in my own effort for my business.

The only thing I am still doing myself is writing for my blog, guest blogging and social media publishing. This seems to be a very challenging task to many people but I seem to find serenity in writing.

For the guest blogging, ComLuv is my only portal. I have to give some credit to ComLuv because many of my guest posts at ComLuv were able to rank up page 1 at Google. So, if you are just reading this and wonder how you can get more traffic to your website,

Guest post here. :)

I have to admit that I have been slagging with the guest posting. I am not finger pointing but with the little boy around, some time I just have to spend more time looking after him instead of letting him crawl around unsupervised. I have heard too many scary stories due to parents’ negligence.

After finish writing, I will dedicate 1-2 hours for my social media publishing. Because I can’t be in the social media platforms all the time, I use some social media management tool namely HootSuite and Buffer to help me manage the portals. I can only say these tools have helped me a lot to free myself from attaching at the laptop.

For your information, you need to leverage on technology to be an affiliate marketer with productivity.

Time To Breathe…

So when I am done with all these work, it is time to prepare the ingredient for dinner for the family and get the little boy to shower. My wife will then cook the dinner when she comes back from work and relief me of some of work for the little baby.

That’s when I can have a breather. I have spared you from the nitty gritty stuff about taking care of a baby because I don’t want to bore you. But in reality, it can be really taxing.

Time to sleep?

I hope so too. Unfortunately we still need to run some house chores, watch baby channel, read to the boy and get him to sleep. It is only when he is asleep that I can talk to my wife or continues my affiliate marketing work. Putting the finishing touches to these tasks will usually keep me occupy until 1am.

Then before I go to bed, I will spend roughly an hour reading, watching and listening to motivational materials to keep me charged for my goal to be a successful affiliate marketer. With that, I am going to leave you with this 12 minutes video about the early life and success of the great Arnold Schwarzenegger.

FYI. I think you may have to re-think you approach to affiliate marketing. All of our clients are required to run affiliate marketing programs. The affiliates who do more than succeed, in fact they make their living as full time affiliates treat their business as a full time job networking with real people and function more a full time sales reps or manufacturers reps.

Just a little food for thought, their is very little difference between the internet and the real world if you want to make a living at it.

In a more ambiguous time space like this, where you don’t need to be in the office from say 9-5, it’s really important to develop a productive schedule. Find the times when you are the most productive and capitalize on those moments. If you work best in the early morning, dedicate that time to nothing but work; if you do your best later in the evening, do it then! Fitting in times to get away from your work are essential too, like you say.

    Hi Michael,

This is not an easy dream. 7 years of hard work and you are just make a living. I think it’s kind of discouraging post. However, there are some interesting things to take from your article:

    1. You have a team. This is the first clue that you are on the right track to success. I’ts so hard to work alone and do everything. A team is an absolute must.
    2. Solo ads, banner ads?
It seems you are using outbound marketing techniques. I have suspected these techniques are not out of fashion, out of use as so many sites are preaching today.

    3. Article marketing? Does this thing really works? I doubt.

    4. Leverage on technology
This is a great tip. Especially when it comes to automated programs. Automated programs are an absolute must. They can really take a lot of burden and save a lot of time.

    5. Which internet marketers have you followed?
This is very important to know because it determines the strategies and methods you are using right now.

All in all the article is interesting and your story, too. I would like to know more. Do you have a site or blog?

    Have a nice day
