8 Affiliate Marketing Tips For Beginners

You probably just finish reading the how to start your affiliate marketing business ebook or attending the class. It is now your time to venture into the business. But in the vast maze of the internet, you are struggling to get started. Is that what’s happening? If that is the case, what you need to do now is to pull yourself together, get organize and look at the 8 affiliate marketing tips for beginners below to how you can make your business works.

1. Research

This research is not just about research for your niche. Too often, affiliate marketing beginners are told to research for their niche. That’s true but there are more to it. Since you are starting the business, you might want to take some time to research on the industry itself.

If you are serious in this business, you might want to join the Warrior Forum. Although you might need to pay to join certain discussion, you can start with other free discussion. There are plenty of useful tips there and can keep you occupy for a long time.

2. Follow your passion or the money

Very often when you started the business you were being advice to start with your passion. If you like body building, you might want to look into that niche. While your passion can be a healthy starting point because you are (assuming) familiar with it, there are many feedbacks that they don’t have a passion or their passion is too general or too competitive and many beginners are stuck there and eventually give up the business.

Since you are already on the path of making money online, why not starts your venture in that direction? It might be challenging at first but if you are determined, nothing can hold you back.

Of course the most ideal situation is that your passion is where the money lies. But if you are like many beginners who are struggling for the profitable niches, you can have a look at self help, weight loss and internet marketing affiliate programs.

3. Quality Content Is King

Content is what attracts visitors to your site and quality content is what keep your visitors return to your site. Gone are the days when you can create a micro blog, slap 5-7 keywords optimized articles and let it run on its own. Not just that your readers will not return, search engines will probably penalize you for not being responsible with your content.

For your information, content is not just about text. It includes videos, audios, images and a mixture of them. Readers nowadays want engagement and a mixture of content can keep them engage.

4. Learn Social media

As mentioned previously, readers nowadays want engagement. Not just that they want to engage with you, they want to engage with their friends as well. So make things easy for them by having social share button on your website.

This is one of the most important things you need to do as an affiliate marketer and you an get hold of lots free advice online.

Having more people talk about you and your business can help to increase the visibility of your affiliate marketing business too. So why not?

5. Outsource

Too many beginners are worried about how to setup their first blog, how their website will look like, how to create content that is engaging and etc.

As the business owner, you should outsource the nitty-gritty things including content creation (if you are weak in it). Your core responsibility is to focus on thinking how to make this business a success and how to expand it to a new level.

As Henry Ford said it, “thinking is the hardest work there is. That is why so few people engage in it.”

6. Keep learning

There is no stopping of the learning curve in every business as there is always new technology or methods to get things done more effectively. This is especially true in online business. Who knows that a Harvard drop out can revolutionize the social media realm and get almost every marketer on earth chasing for it.

Aside following some of the famous marketers and websites, another quick way to keep learning is to sign up for Google Alerts and it will send you an alert when Google pick up any update on your topic.

7. Tracking

As many of you might be running the business with limited resources, you want to know what you did work for you business. If the time you spent writing for article directories don’t bring you the desire target, why continue dedicating your time on it? If the money you spent on solo ad don’t bring you the desire traffic, you might want to consider changing advertising sources or stop the investment.

You won’t know all the above if you don’t track your result and that’s why many beginners spent a lot of money but fail to see the result.

So, needless to say you will want to join Google Analytics to at least start tracking your website traffic. You will also want to join Google Analytics Blog to know how to maximize your Analytics account.

Lastly…

8. Be accountable

After all this is your business and your financial future. If you are not the one to hold accountable for, who else?

    I think have quality and fresh content like you said is one of the most key things. To often I see people only posting on their blog once a week or even less. This is a sure fire way to loose customers. You should be posting at a minimum of 3 times a week and once a day would be perfect. This will help the search engine traffic to keep coming in and continue to grow. This will ultimately lead to more affiliate sales as well. So it’s a win win.

      Kudos to what you said. But I can relate to why some people don’t blog as often. Sometime, the writer blog will certainly blog you from moving forward. Unless, you have some good guest bloggers as with the ComLuv Network, sometime it could be quite tiring coming up with worthy ideas.

      Besides, you can opt for some paid traffic instead of just relying on search engine traffic to drive traffic. Sometime, SEO just take too long time…

      Consistency is a real virtue to be successful in any venture. But you have to start on the right path. There is consistency in making the right move and consistency in making the wrong move. There are some benchmark need to be met before making the decision to continue with the same path.

    Some good pointers Michael. Actually these 8 steps would work pretty well in increasing traffic flow to your site or blog whether it was for marketing reasons or not.

    Social media has become a huge factor in building an online presence and is pretty tightly knitted with the ranking of ones website as well, to the best of my knowledge.

      To me personally, 0 pagerank is not a hinder to getting into affiliate marketing. You can get readers by using paid traffic like solo ads, ezine directories, PPV or youtube, document sharing sites and etc.

      Is more important to grow your blog with content, driving traffic and apply attraction marketing for your affiliate marketing business.

      To me personally, there is no one affiliate network that is really good. All of them is just to park the merchant product. To me it is more important of how good is the product and whether the product is convertible.

      So, I’ll just go back to Clickbank, affiliate.com, monetizeit and other common affiliate networks.

      To me, if your ultimate goal is make money online and achieve your financial freedom with making money online, I’ll suggest you start build up your domain with a proper website or blog. To be frank, everyone started with a 0 pr and N/A alexa rank or at least that’s what I know.

      Also, making money online is not an overnight thing. It needs a lot of effort and persistence.

      Cash parking is just a temporary thing. That’s just my personal opinion.

      I am afraid I am not the right person to answer this because I didn’t really setup the website myself. I only know that my website is hooked with webmaster tool and that the tool will inform me if there is something wrong with my website and that it have something to do with improving the website (my designer will know better).

      So, I only use the Google Analytics to look at the traffic and I am also not very good about that. I often have to refer to my consultant for the details.

    One comment on number 2. Like my boss Mark Johnson alsways says: small business owners who start their business purely with passion often do not realize in what business they are in. An accountant is not in the accounting business! His employees may be, but for the most important part the business owner should be in the marketing (building) of his business!

      I personally think that product review is excellent to get customer. But many people have exploited the term “review” and “scam” making it hard for genuine affiliate marketers to rank their site.

      If you still want to promote your review, maybe you want to support the post with more effort like video marketing, SEO, social discussion or market directly to your list subscribers.

      Of course your niche is also a very competitive one and you might want to give more work to it.

      Also, I’ll suggest you focus your website with 1 niche only.

        I think I’m good with SEO, but I got less point for subscriber, may be I had no product to be offered.

        For some of visitor will subscribe or sign up from our web auto responding systems, I thought we have to have product for them to be downloaded.
        But for these case, I had no product yet because I think it’s really hard to create good product for FREE downloadable.

        How about your opinion from that case?

      I used to make lots of clickbank sales from review type of website before April 24, 2012 where my affiliate review sites are ranked top in Google. Since the google update ,my affiliate website are no where in google and the affiliate sale have drop to $0.

      It’s harder to build a review site solely and make money from it compare to 2012.

    I find the web quite daunting these days, with so many different opinions and views and not knowing which ones are right, it’s hard. I’ve tried affiliate marketing before and the site I set up sold Halloween costumes (which is obviously seasonal) and it did quite well over the Sept/Oct months, and I was pleased about it. But nowadays everything’s changing so quickly with Google and social media, it’s hard to keep up with what’s hot and what’s not anymore and it feels like a never-ending saga. It’s just going so quick. It takes a lot to keep on top of everything that’s happening in the world of marketing and really stay ahead of the game. And I got into Internet stuff thinking I would eventually be able to wind down a bit and do some ‘easy work’, but it’s the complete opposite. After 6 years of working online, I have to say that it’s actually more work than going to a 9-5 job. Reason being is I’m constantly thinking about it and there’s no real break from it. I’m always ‘at work’. There are definitely advantages to it and of course disadvantages as well. Working from home has been a dream of mine for a long time and I’m now doing it, but it isn’t easy work. In fact I’ve had to learn so many interesting, technical things on the job that I never even knew about before. It’s very interesting to say the least! :)

      I salute the effort you have put in to make things happen. I believe it was a marvelous venture. Looking back, you probably never imagine you can last so long and stay committed in the business.

      One of the very important things is that all the learning, testing, working, building have become the skills that no one can ever take away.

      If you were to start again (of course you aren’t. But I am just saying), it should be a piece of cake for you.

      By the way, if things do get out of control, do outsource some of it. You just can’t do it all by yourself.

        I hadn’t really put my attention on the most important thing, but you’re completely right! The things you learn by doing it yourself are quite phenomenal and can never be taken away from you. So, it’s never a waste of time. Competency is definitely a great feeling and while a lot of studying was needed, it can’t be replaced by the doingness itself. Outsourcing is a good idea though. I definitely can’t wear every hat in the business and continue in that way for sure. Thanks so much for the positive feedback – it helped!

    3. Do basic SEO..

    5. Promote products via Squidoo, Hubpages etc..
    6. Get Traffic

      Hi Dhruv,

      You have good points there but it is never quick to build something with QUALITY. Many beginners are scare off by the word and often shy from building the business.

      But starting the business with something basic will be good. :)

      We work into more quality materials as we move along and learn more about the business. That’ll be more comfortable to many people. :)
