I remember back in the days when I didn’t have a website and I used to hear myths about building a website. Of course I believed them because I did not know any better. These myths often held me back and stopped me from going forward and building a website. This is why I have listed the truth about building a website for yourself.
Why would you want to start building a website yourself?
There are many good reasons why people might want to build a website.
- You have a small business that you want to promote online.
- You want to start building a website yourself so you can learn to build websites for others.
- You want to start building websites to make money online.
- You have a strong passion for something and want to build a website about it.
- You know that your business needs an online presence to keep up with the times.
So now we will expose the myths that you might hear when building a website yourself..
1. Building a website has to be a multi-million-dollar project
Back in the old days, when building websites was all done manually, then it was expensive to get a website. But now with all the push button software, anyone can build a website and it is a crime at how cheap it really is. I started my entire business for about $100. This includes the domain name and the hosting of my business.
After that I created content and did my own promotion. All of which cost me nothing. This Hundred dollar cost to start a business later turned into a $5000 a month income business. This is the power of building a website. I am very happy that I took the plunge and started my own website. Now I have many more websites, some making $2,000 a month and others new ones making $100 a month.
If you are a large company with a big reputation, then you probably do need a multi-million-dollar project. However if you are just the average person on the street with $100 in their pocket, then building a website is the best investment you can make with that one hundred dollars. Hey you can also blow it on a night out at a restaurant, but we all know which investment you will never regret!
2. You need to be a professional to build a website
When I started building WordPress websites, I was definitely not a professional web designer, coder, or anything like that. Building websites was a whole new world to me and I can tell you now, you do not need to be a professional to build a website. Many small businesses in your local area will presume that you need to hire a professional to build a website, however they could not be more wrong. We will leave them thinking like that though, because if you take the plunge to start building websites yourself,
3. Building a website from scratch is a lot of work
Yes, building a website from scratch is a lot of work but it is not as much work as you think. In the old days you used to have to write the code manually and upload it to a server. Now everything is push-button and this includes installing a website. For example you can get Web hosting that uses cPanel with Fantastico and this will allow you to upload a WordPress website in a matter of minutes, and possibly even less.
4. You need to go and do a course
I have not personally enrolled in any courses to learn how to build websites like I do. However I do know people that have done these courses and I have checked them out thoroughly. I often looked at the course material and wondered why they were teaching this stuff. The next question was, how could they be teaching this stuff if they haven’t done it themselves?
The only people that are qualified at building websites and making money online are the people that are actually doing it. Even better for you, these people often share all of their success stories and paths to riches for free on their blogs. They share every step of building a website for any type of business, whether it’s making money online, or just a small business website.
5. Technically challenged people cannot build websites
People often presume that you need to be a tech whiz to build a website. This is another myth that needs to be exposed. There are many ways to get yourself going on this project to build websites. You might only want to build one website or you might want to build 10, it does not matter.
There are simple options available, and there are even bloggers out there that will install your first website for you if you buy hosting through them. How could you refuse free WordPress website installation. If I had been offered help by a professional blogger when I started building websites, I would have been up and running and making money a lot sooner. Believe it or not, hardly any people have taken me upon my offer as they try to install WordPress themselves first and 100% of the people have succeeded. But hey, the offer is there!
