Themes are very important for every blogger and it is even better when you can install a SEO friendly WordPress Theme. Running a successful website or blog is a cut throat business now days and you need to make sure your website stands out and looks professional. On face value the readers are happy with the appearance, but what about the tech stuff in the background?

A great WordPress theme will serve as the framework for your blog and makes life easy for the webmaster. Back in the old days if you wanted to change a theme or template for a website it was a major drama. But now we have push button professionally designed themes that even do a lot of the SEO work for us too!

There are several great SEO friendly themes which are available for WordPress, however in this article I will mention 3 of the most-friendly SEO themes.

Thesis Theme

The Thesis theme is ideal for people who are serious about their blog and have a bit of tech know how. This theme framework is the bare bones of a theme and you need to either install a skin for design or build your own through css and code.

Thesis is extremely innovative and has very detailed SEO settings in the themes settings. For example you can “no index” any page or post from within the post settings. You can also add meta description, title, and tags. Having Thesis means you do not have to install too many plugins as there is a lot built in already.

Elegant Theme Packages

I am not here to compare Elegant Themes to Thesis as they are both very different. They both are great for SEO in their own way.

Elegant themes have perpetual updates that insure compatibility to the newest version of WordPress which in itself stays in tune with SEO. It also provides you with current updates regarding the status of your website and secure codes which are compliant to W3C. These premium themes assure the quality level which is not common with all theme packages. Elegant themes have browser compatibility and complete localization. This is very important factor because bloggers want to keep their blog performing properly when visitors check their site.

Elegant themes is different because it is a package deal of about 70 WordPress Themes, all designed for today’s new devices and the modern SEO needs. The designs that Nick Roach and his crew come up with can blow your mind. So beautiful, yet panda and penguin compliant, with SEO working in the background.

Genesis Theme

SEO friendly WordPress themes are everywhere but there are a few that stand out. Running a successful website or blog is a cut throat business now days and you need to make sure your website stands out and looks professional. for wordpress blogger and has several designs to choose from. The Genesis configuration panel involves an entire drop-down section which is located at the sidebar. This reveals various choices that you can utilize to customize or tweak the theme. The theme setting panel provides you with instant accessibility to the core theme settings. It includes the updates, layouts, custom feed URL, header or footer script, and navigation.

The SEO Setting permits you to customize the title, robots Meta setting, and head setting of the document. It also allows you to specify the text wrapping such as H1 for the title, subtitle, and description. It also has imports and exports option which helps you to transfer your settings from one site to another. The Design settings permit you to customize the type, size, and color of every areas of the site.

When Buying a SEO Theme is not an Option?

If you are not ready to buy a premium WordPress Theme, no problem. There are definitely ways around this problem and it is called plugins.

Yes that’s right, plugins. If you cannot buy a theme that has amazing SEO capabilities then you can add a few free plugins to help you out.

Some free SEO Plugins are:

WPSEO from Yoast

SEO Auto Links & Related Posts

SEO Rank Reporter

SEO Friendly Images

These plugins are just examples and are very handy when you do not have an SEO theme. As soon I as I install a premium WordPress theme with SEO capabilities, I remove extra plugins and let the theme work for me.

    • Twitter:
It depends on the theme. If you are happy then I would stick with what you have. I even like the look of the new default twenty 12 theme that comes standard with wordpress.. Although I still cannot do some things I do with thesis, it is starting to get better SEO options etc.

Interesting so you would put the elegant themes right up there next to Thesis and Genesis?

The ‘framework’ design themes seem to be the most popular solution these days which is your favorite between the two? Genesis or Thesis?

Even though I already have a theme in place, I was wondering if SEO errors on it is going to affect my rankings badly?

I have some errors but I think to myself that they are kind of pointless such as too many links on the homepage where I need all of them.

    What’s your take?

Seo errors do make your site drop from the rankings… I have done this many times.. Firstly you might rank for the wrong keyword and drop out for the one you really want.. SEO errors like broken links kill your blog dead.. I am bad for this one… This a maintenance job I sometimes neglect.

Also appearing to do too much search engine optimisation is an error in itself and can also cause your website problems. there is no ignoring search engine optimisation as it is not only needed but can affect your entire website even when you do not think you are using it…

  18. Thanks for the very useful information, I’m designing custom web sites on WordPress so have a choice of an SEO friendly “base” theme like Genesis, or going for an SEO plug-in like Yoast. I’ve just had a quick look at Yoast and it looks great, especially for nothing. Does anyone have an opinion on which is better SEO base theme or plug-in… or both?

I like Thesis because they really go into SEO detail. Well deeper than most. This means that in the long run there is less work for me. Less manual work anyway.
A good SEO theme will have no errors in the code of the theme, a place to add meta descriptions, an option to no index or nofollow individual pages, and more. There are many details that can make our SEO job easier. :)

  22. Although I agree, buying a premium theme is not necessary, for me, I’ve found that the benefits that they can bring me always outweigh the costs, which are pretty minimal. As you point out, these premium themes can offer much, much more customization and features, and are very helpful for SEO. Using free themes is OK, but I really think it is worth the investment to get some of these premium ones, they really make a huge impact.

  23. WordPress is an excellent tool that many small businesses and individuals are using to reach their target audiences. Choose a WordPress theme that is easy to install, use and most importantly can help you make money online.

My favorite is the Genesis Framework for sure. The built in SEO is fantastic with all the options you could want. StudioPress also has an SEO Data Transporter plugin that will migrate meta data if you switch themes (only select themes work … but it’s a good selection and includes the main SEO plugins).

  41. Thank you, thank you . . . I have been designing websites for a few years now, but am looking into blogging. With the multitude of free web design programs – cloud, CMS, drag and drop, it is getting harder to find actual clients. So, now doing some “shopping” for this blog idea I have in mind.
