Viber, the app developed by Viber Media Inc., is indeed one of the best apps you can use to make free calls, send free messages and multimedia to the people in your life. It enables you to talk to another Viber user anywhere in the world, for free! You can also send pictures, videos, and other data to your acquaintances via Viber.

Positives

  1. It is free! Viber only utilizes the data plan to transfer the voice, messages, and multimedia. You do not need to pay anything else. Just download it, and start off!
  2. No registration required. Yes! You do not need to register yourself and put in a password to use Viber. It is completely hassle-free and quick.
  3. Viber users can make groups of multiple users and share messages and multimedia.
  4. Available for iOS, Android, Blackberry, Symbian, Windows, and Bada operating systems.
  5. Frequent updates from the developer help to remove the glitches and/or errors, if any.

Negatives

  1. Requires Quality Network Connection

Viber works well only with good quality network connection; 3G and wi-fi prove to be the best. Users may experience poor call quality if the network connection is slow or inferior. Similarly, multimedia may take more time to transfer in case of slow/inferior connection.

  1. Call Facility Unavailable for Blackberry

Blackberry users with Viber on their phones cannot make calls to other users of the application, at least for now. Per reports, the developer is working on the issue and would soon be out with a solution.

Conclusion

Viber is an excellent app for all the smartphone users. Not only it lets you transfer data to other Viber users, it also lets you communicate with them via voice – all for free. It is, indeed, one of the best apps to make free calls and send free messages.

  2. Viber is brilliant. I’ve been using the iOS version for a couple of years now, and it never disappoints. It now supports a large number of cellular operating systems, which means there’s a chance that there is a version available for your device. The call quality is excellent and apart from the free calls thing, you can use it to send texts as well. I heard a few months back that they’re also planning to add video capabilities to it, ala Skype. The best part about Viber is that once you install it, it automatically scans your address book/contacts list and gives you a list of people in your contacts that use Viber. Its a pretty neat feature!

I tried Viber 12 months ago or so – at the time, it was pretty buggy and I’ve never used it since.
I now usually use Skype which available on every device in the known universe or WhatsApp for text messaging … oh and then there’s iMessage between iOS devices.
Can’t say I need another app but good round-up at the same, Pushkar

I’ve used viber a few times. When the internet is running slow it often leaves you sounding like a comical robot….but at least it’s free.

I have been using Viber on my iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 since a long time.
Its an awesome app for free calling just that quality is a bit disappointing but what can one ask for in the free stuff? :)

  11. Twitter:
Viber is great, but the app “Line” is super popular in Asia now for free texting and calls. Whenever I go back to Taiwan I heard it everywhere — even when I went to Thailand I heard it everywhere, and I read it’s really popular in Japan and Korea, and they’re even beginning to find successful ways to monetize it by selling stickers, backgrounds, games, etc.

  12. So basically, this is a great app for those who have unlimited data and no minutes because it transfers your data into minutes? I guess you could go to Starbucks or possibly have Wi-Fi at your house but then it starts sounding a lot like Skype. How is Skype any different than this or is there no difference?~~Jenna
