Review Summary:
Evernote is one of the most popular organizing and idea saving apps used by bloggers, writers and those trying to keep their lives organized.
If you are a blogger, website content writer or any other type of writer, keeping your ideas from getting forgotten or lost is very important. Every writer knows about scratching out an idea on the back of a receipt or napkin and then accidentally losing it in the mountain of paper on your desk, in your car or throwing it away. Or to have come up with the plan for the next best seller only to have forgotten it a few hours later.
These five apps for storing and organizing your blog and other writing ideas are some of the best tools on the market to help you never lose another idea. All five apps work on both Apple and Android smartphones and tablets and on your computer, the Pocket and Evernote even work on the Kindle. You can sync your ideas in one location and access them later on any of your electronic devices.
Evernote – Free
Evernote is one of the most popular organizing and idea saving apps used by bloggers, writers and those trying to keep their lives organized. It captures webpages, allows text notes to your account, make voice notes when in those places when typing might not be an option, skitch (uses shapes, arrows and sketches instead of words) and even saves images. Just save your ideas to your account on any device and you can search your notes later to organize and find your ideas.
Pocket – Free
The Pocket app allows you to save webpages that might have sparked an idea for both online and off reading as well as information from over 300 apps such as Facebook, Twitter and Blogger. It even saves photos and videos. You can also type in notes and add reference info for future blog or book ideas. The Pocket works with Kindle products.
Diigo – Free
Diigo is a unique app in that it not only allows you to save webpages but you can add sticky notes, highlight and other written notes around the page on what you like or didn’t like. Make notes of the ideas that sparked for your blog topics on each webpage you mark and never forget while you marked it. Diigo also has a bookmarking feature that allows you to use multiple browsers but store all your bookmarks in one location.
Catch – Free
Catch is another great organizing app that allows voice, text and photo notes. It also has a to-do checklist feature for creating checkable checklists for marking off your list as you go (great for not forgetting the milk or the dry cleaning). Email any of your saved notes and use hash tags to organize your notes and ideas to make searching later easier. Catch automatically backups and saves and is passcode protected.
Pocket Informant Online – $15.00 per year
The Pocket Informant Online is the only app on this list that isn’t free but it is worth the money. The app combines a working calendar that syncs with your Outlook or Google calendars, has a contacts list, marks locations, uses text and voice notes and templates. Your settings for this app will sync to all your devices giving you a uniform platform across the board.
Writers live busy lives and many of us have great ideas that we forget about because we didn’t make a note of them to remind us later. It’s also rare that any of us don’t have an electronic device on us anymore for accessing the Internet, so not using one of these apps to prevent lost ideas for writing topics is no longer an excuse. Take a moment out of your busy day and download one of these apps for keeping your thoughts organized and stored in one location and stop searching the paper piles on your desk.
A great article spot all bloggers need to be utilizing is Content BLVD, a crowdsourced content marketing platform enabling bloggers to publish more content and grow their audiences. This is achieved by connecting authoritative bloggers to a crowd of top notch contributors offering high quality, informative content.

Hey Rob some cool apps. I’ve been using Inkpad for quite some time now, and it works pretty decent. It allows you to sync with an online account, but it’s features are quite limited. I’m gonna try out a couple of these you mentioned. Sound like the Pocket Information Online is pretty much loaded with all the features the others have. It’s a small price to pay for organization.

I recently started using Springpad. It’s got a real writer’s feel to it, storing information in virtual notebooks (that look like notebooks).
One thing I used it for was to organize research articles that I wanted to read for my dissertation and later critique on my blog. I created an empty notebook, then created an entry for each article (with the citation and abstract), tagging it with some information to help me remember what it was about. I then tagged it as “Reviewed” or “Pending,” so I can quickly sort out which ones I still need to read.
Very useful, and helps with productivity.

Hi Rob,
I’ve been using Diggo for last few months and it’s really great app. As something comes into my mind related to my work I just make a note for it and work it out later.

I’ve been using EverNote for aslong as I can remember and I’ve never had any issues with it, no surprise it’s your number one recommendation on this page.
I’ve always struggled with organisation but my Iphone has definitely helped. Currently I’m using the combination of EverNote and Catch to keep my thoughts in one place.
Now I just need to make sure I don’t lose my phone…
I never use that apps while i’m using Android
but I will try to use it.

I am in touch of some of these wizards but now to all. Thanks for sharing new wizards. They will help me. Thanks for sharing.
the best apps in this list are evernote and pocket (read it later). I used to look down upon Evernote but its much better (obviously) than the Mac’s built-in note app. Read it later on the other hand is my all time favourite. Despite they renamed it Pocket, i still call it Read it Later because that’s how I loved it

Rob, I love Evernote. I use it both at home and work, and always look forward to updates. I think having pc, android, and ios clients really works well for them. I’ve also experimented with Bamboo notes for Evernote, but slightly disappointed I can’t edit the notes once they’re saved.
