When I write about failing I generally mean making bad business decisions that have lead you down the path of failure. At some point in our online careers we’ve all made mistakes, but the best thing about making mistakes is that we can learn from them, right? It shouldn’t really be looked upon as a bad thing really, you should rejoice them and be damn glad that you made so that you know better for next time.

So what should you take away from the mistakes you’ve made in business? That really depends on the nature of the mistakes you’ve made, but generally here are my thoughts –

Bad Business Decisions: Lesson One – Avoid making quick decisions in the future

I know what its like to make quick and thoughtless decisions, and in business it’s imperative that if you’re making a big decision on something and it’s really down to success or failure, then sleep on it for a while.

Don’t get to that last page and click on the “˜Buy Now’ button if you’re unsure of what you’re buying will be of any use to you. Put your credit card back into your wallet if you’re half-hearted about whether paying for whatever it is you’re paying for will work or not, don’t change that theme on your blog

just because you think that your readers can’t stand the look of your current blog”¦ Think about it or sleep on it before committing, catch my drift?

Bad Business Decisions: Lesson Two – Always ask other’s for their input if you’re really doubtful

One of the things I used to do in the past is make all the decisions myself, because after all it’s my business right? Maybe, but I’ve learnt that two brains are better than one, even if one of them is a sheep! Ask members of your family or friends, or even one of your social networking contacts for their input. You’ll feel much more connected with your business and your contacts as well in doing so.

Bad Business Decisions: Lesson Three – Don’t put all your ideas in one basket

Perhaps the most important lesson to be learnt from making bad business decisions is to never, ever place all your heart, all your ideas and all your money into one basket. If all should fail you’ll have very little options left to salvage anything. Being in business shouldn’t become a gambling game to such an extent that it removes the joy out of confidently making good business decisions.

What are your thoughts on the above three lessons learnt from making bad business decisions? Have you made any regretful business decisions? Do you have any tips to add to the list above? Leave me your thoughts in the comment section below.
