Relaxing at your backyard garden

When summer hits, nothing can drain your wallet like paying for all of those outdoor excursions. This season, try keeping things close to home by turning your backyard into an area that the entire family simply can’t get enough of. If you consider these nine simple tips, you’ll be basking in the envy of the entire neighborhood”¦and the summer sun, of course”¦

(1) Assess What You’re Working With

No project should start without first understanding what you have already in place. If you have a deck that’s seen some years, consider a painting project. The time taken is nothing compared to the coming summer months enjoying it, right? Is the fence a bit unsightly? Look into some ivy or morning glory to give the fence line a natural feel.

Further, take note of where the shade lies. This will come into play later in the project. Do any shrubs need a trim? A bit of effort in this department, and you may realize that you’re closer than you had originally thought. Don’t neglect privacy, also, as some fast-maturing shrubs can offer some privacy and sound absorption when it comes to the neighbors.

(2) Take Note of the Primary Users and Design Accordingly

Nothing beats some quality family time, right? When you’re laying out your design, consider the hobbies or interests of those that will be using it the most. Those that love to read would likely love a hammock or comfortable chair with a nearby table for refreshments. Porch swings are great for those wanting to read the newspaper in the early afternoon, and those that have children may want to seek out a tree for a tree house locale.

(3) Maintenance-Free”¦or At Least Low”¦

When you’re selecting the shrubs that you’d like to utilize, remember that some will stop growing once they reach maturity, which can save you a ton of time in the pruning department. Also, put flower beds or plants in areas in which they’ll get the necessary sunlight without extra effort. This ensures that the elements nurture your yard with as much vigor as you do! Rolls of weed blocker can save you hours of weed pulling, so consider them a viable option when laying stones for a path or walkway.

(4) Selecting Furnishing That Will Promote Conversation

Now, we aren’t talking about furniture that attracts attention. Instead, we’re considering arrangement that will facilitate a gathering. By having plenty of sitting room, perhaps centered with a nice outdoor table,

you’ll ensure that everyone is relaxed and enjoying conversations for the entire summer. Polywood adirondack chairs offer an incredible opportunity for some alone time off near the flower bed, so be sure that you’re furnishing your yard with the various elements of summer fun in mind.

(5) Light My Fire!

Well, my fire’s already lit, but consider the use of a fire pit or outdoor grill as a welcomed addition to any backyard paradise. You spend most of the year cooking inside, so why not take advantage of the weather? You can also take things a step further with a portable fire pit, which would also make a great centerpiece for a group of chairs. This will keep the conversation flowing well into the evening hours.

(6) Nurture the Body, Feed the Soul

Flower beds offer a couple of different avenues that can contribute to your relaxation. A garden of fresh fruits or vegetables can offer a high nutritional value while bringing some welcomed wildlife like small birds into the area. Children love watching the veggies get larger and many grow quite quickly. Flowers such as cosmos or zinnias are easy to maintain and can give your backyard an incredible fragrance.

(7) Don’t Forget the Tunes!

Music can set a tone better than most mediums. By installing some outdoor speakers, you can keep the mood light and moving. Many speakers are designing for outdoor areas much like what we’re creating here, and are very discrete. Designed to look like rocks or be hidden in plants or trees, you can get all of the benefits of music without hulking speakers ruining the setting.

(8) Running Water Cures All Ills

Nothing can replace the drone of a nearby highway like a small fountain. While many may want to look into installing a small pond, you can get a similar effect by using a birdbath or a running fountain. You’ll likely attract some native wildlife, so prepare yourself for a few extra guests. In the end, you’ll love what the sound of running water adds to your backyard.

(9) Save Some Room for Activities

Families that spend time together often enjoy lawn games like bocce ball or badminton. These games don’t need an entire field, and can provide hours of good, clean fun. If you have the room, consider a couple of sandboxes for a game of horseshoes, and you’ve got everything you need to spend every sunny day on your own property.

These tips are just a few of the wonderful modifications you can make to enhance your backyard space. Spending time together can be facilitated with an environment that promotes relaxation and activities, so don’t hesitate to throw your own flair into it. After all, it’s for your enjoyment!
