Sometimes, when you go to a website, there’s a pop-up or a pop-under that appears on your desktop. If you’re anything like me, what you do is you close it just as soon as you see it, unless…
…unless something really catches your eye.
And that’s exactly what PPV (or Pay Per View) is all about.
Most of those pop-ups and pop-unders are part of various PPV campaigns where the advertisers pay a small amount of money for every time someone sees their offer.
(Now, before you go on to tell me that this is spamming, let me say to you that most of the people seeing those pop-ups agreed to have them appear in exchange for a piece of software or something else, so it’s totally legit.)
They sign up for a PPV network, set up their campaigns, keywords and budgets and their offers get displayed on thousands of screens almost immediately.
Easy, right?
Right. But does it really work?
Let me tell you a story from one of the top Internet marketers. His name is Trey Smith, and he’s a cousin of Frank Kern (yes, the Mass Control dude.)
The other day I heard Trey talk about how he used PPV to bid on hundreds (or maybe even thousands, I don’t remember) of ClickBank product URLs (yes, you can do that with PPV. You can bid on a URL, and every time someone visits that address, your offer pops up.) When someone went to that URL and decided to close the browser, they saw the same site again (full screen) but this time with Trey’s ClickBank ID embedded in it.
Sounds really shady, doesn’t it?
(Just keep reading!)
To make the long story short, he was able to pull in $2,000 in about 2 weeks.
Not too shabby, if you ask me!
Now, that story proves that PPV actually works (and it’s not the only one) but what exactly can it be used for?
Let me give you two example, alright?
- List Building On Your Blog
This is one of the most effective ways to use PPV, in my opinion.
Just send people to your blog with an opt-in form on it. This way you can get your list to grow super fast for 5 to 10 cents per subscriber.
Now, on average, you should be able to pull a dollar a month from each person on your mailing list, so if you do the math, you pay 10 cents a pop and make a dollar each month off them for as long as you live.
Cool, ain’t it?
- Promoting Your Own Products
I am sure that pretty much everyone reading this does product reviews on their blog.
After all, you can make a ton of money from just one review, right?
Well, there’s nothing stopping you from using PPV to get thousands and even tens of thousands of people to see your review.
If it is good, people will buy what you’re talking about, and considering the fact that PPV is really cheap, you’ll be making profit in no time at all.
Now, that we got that out of the way, let’s talk about how to get started.
There are tons of PPV networks around, but some of the best ones include Traffic Vance, Media Traffic and Lead Impact.
Each one of those networks has specific rules they go by, but all of them will ask you to make a monetary deposit into the account, just to prove to the network that you really are serious about this. That deposit can be just a few dollars or a few thousand dollars, so…
…my recommendation is for you to start small and then move up as you see the results that satisfy you.
You should never just dump money into a PPV network without first testing your offer out and making sure it’s going to convert.
You can do that by setting a small budget at first and then increase it with time (just like you would with PPC, for instance.) Using this traffic source, you’ll be able to get millions of views each month just for a few hundred bucks, so it’s really, really worth it.
Now, here’s a question for you:
Have you guys ever tried PPV before? What was your experience?

I’ve actually never even heard of PPV before now. And would it be of any use for someone who doesn’t do product reviews?
Adult Awkwardness´s recent blog post ..Tuesdays Tune-Ups- My favorite tunes explained – Dola Re Dola Swing- Swing- Sway
Well, if you have your own product you can use PPV to promote it, or you can use PPV to get opt-in subscriber and then using emails to promote your own products or if you just want traffic to your website or blog, you can also use PPV, but my best recommendation to use PPV if you have something to sell because using PPV is all about “return in investment” and that’s the most important thing you need to calculate…

Hey Ive always wondered how sites do this.
When I visit some sites it annoys me when it pops up and so Ive been reluctant to test it on my blog.
But Its interesting the study done by Trey and the results they got. Just proves that there is always merit in testing new things and just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it wont bother other people
Thanks for the tip!

Well, I too doesn’t like pop up, but you know what, we should not look at ourselves just because we do not like… I mean there are billions and billions of internet user and just only 1% of the people who like pop up… is enough for PPV user to earn big cash… so it’s really worth it… and thanks for reading my post… talk to you soon..

This is my first time to deepen my understanding regarding PPV. Many bloggers have lost thousands of sales by simply not having a clear understanding of the complexity involved such method. I think it takes a while to learn how to bid properly, create compelling content that are relevant and using these methods effectively in driving traffic.
Thanks for sharing man. This is surely about more traffic and sales.
kirapermunian´s recent blog post ..Are There Any Usability Standards for Blogging
Well, PPV is all about traffic and conversion of sales, although I do not recommend PPV for blogger in the internet marketing or blogging for money niche, but I do recommend PPV for niches such as health, loss weight and many others… you name it…
The reason behind why internet marketing niche is not suited for this method is because the market already knows the method behind “pop-up” is all about selling stuff and if you did ask a person who do not know anything about internet marketing… his answer to you will be “a pop-up I don’t mind, lets click it and see what’s that”

I think PayperView best works when it is used for list building rather than anything else. If it is used to show advertising then it really becomes very irritating. But yes PPV are really a good way of boosting traffic as well as earnings

Yes PPV is best for list building, although you are right that advertising is irritating, but not all market audience are the same, I believe there is people who still accept PPV… well, because there are still ton of site that uses it, so that’s to say… it’s working or else why they even use ppv in the first place….
