I’m going to tell you how I got number one in Google…

I’ve started my first blog (www.devenir-rentier.info) in november 2010…

  • At that time i didn’t know anything about seo.
  • I’ve started my first blog with blogger…
  • I’ve been writing 1 post every day, and google was helping me ranking naturally (I believe that google ranks blogger blogs better… not surprising)
  • After a year I’ve started to study seo, especially after reading Pat Flynn blog post about a backlinking strategy that works.
  • Then came Article Samurai with a great series of videos, and I’ve decided to give it a try, because I wanted to rank for a specific keyword (Scpi).

I will tell you the results later in this post…

In june 2011 I’ve created another blog (www.etreheureux.fr) about how to be happy in this crazy world :-)

  • I wanted to rank fast, but I didn’t want to use any miracle tool.
  • So I’ve used Market Samurai to spy on other blogs backlinks, and I’ve started commenting high PR blogs…
  • I had installed commentluv plugin, and I had seen that there was no French Translation, I’ve decided to go for it, and I’m glad I did, my name is now probably on your dashboard :-) , but not on the commentluv wordpress page though :-((it is now! -admin)
  • I did that for a few months, I’ve been even commenting the Redcross blog!
  • My position in the Serp was going up slowly but steadily..
  • But commenting is time consuming, and the results were slow, so after a while I just stopped…

Then I’ve decided to purchase Article Samurai on Dec 9th 2011, which allows you to spin article and syndicate it in the Unique Article Wizard blog networks.

  • I’ve used it mostly for my first blog (www.devenir-rentier.info), and I had quick and great results!
  • Wow, I was impressed, I got on first page of google for 3 money keywords (scpi, devenir riche and devenir rentier) after a few weeks
    and a few spun articles…

My traffic was increasing… until … Penguin update!

  • On April 24th 2012, my rankings started to drop badly for my main keywords…
  • 2 keywords just disappeared form the Serp
  • The 3rd one dropped, and is now doing the google dance
  • Long tail keywords though were not hit.
  • Only the pages where I had done intensive backlinking were hit

positions for “devenir rentier”

On the other side, for my 2nd blog (www.etreheureux.fr), well nothing happened…

  • Trafic decreased just a little because some of it is coming from my 1st blog, but for the Serp nothing changed.
  • I was number 2 or 3 for the “etre heureux” keyword and it was fine!
  • And on July 16th 2012, I was number 1!
  • As of today (Aug 18th 2012), I’m first on Google, Bing and Yahoo
  • It’s not a high traffic keyword, but still it’s nice to be number one:-)

positions for “etre heureux”

Conclusion

  • I’m not an Seo expert, and Etre Heureux is not a competitive keyword…
  • Besides I have an exact domain match, and I got lucky because the domain name was created in 2007, and I purchased it in 2011.
  • But for one blog I did some spinning and backlinking through Article Samurai and UAW, and I was badly hit by the Penguin
  • For the other blog I’ve been commenting consistently and it seems that Google doesn’t mind…
  • Now I’m applying the same strategy for all my blogs, we’ll see the results in a few months…

That was my little story, tell me what is yours about seo. Where you hit by penguin? Did commenting increase your Serp?
