The article is targeted to black (African American) skin alone. Has it got properties that may be useful for brown or white skin types? I’m interested because my girls are pale-skinned and I’m concerned about sun overuse. Would the application of Aloe Vera make them burn (like applying Vaseline before you go out in the sunshine) or would it be okay to do so?

Hi Anneig,
Aloe Vera is universal, the level of melanin great and small, will determine just how much you need as you spend time in the sun.
How you use Aloe Vera and the amount will be determined by the product you choose. If found in sunscreens, you’d apply it before you go out into the sun. But if you’ve spent to much time in the sun the cool gel of Aloe Vera is a welcomed treat to your skin.

My father is currently 94 and he has the most amazing skin for that age. My mother used to complain about all the aloe vera plants in the garden – they can be quite prickly if you brush past them. He used to gut off the outside skin and rub the gel all over his skin and face religiously every day and sometimes he would even eat it. His heart is not so good now but his skin is still amazing.
Hi ExcitedbyLife,
What a great story! Longevity and great skin, a winning combination for You.
