Don’t you like to be called a blogger ? is it that you don’t like to be respected? It can’t be the case definitely because I know what it feels to be like blogging at Techfreak Blog . People respect us on recognizing us as a blogger and that gives a good feeling about ourselves. We see lots of articles about what bloggers must do technically but there are not many articles stating what bloggers must avoid. Here is one from me, even I am not a perfect man but I will write what I know and what I am good at.
Avoid Copying Contents:
It is the worst thing a blogger can do to spoil his image among fellow bloggers and his readers too. Always try to be innovative, there might be a question ‘Almost every thing is written up somewhere, what to do ?’ yeah I agree with that. What you can do is write on the same titles but in a different manner. Be creative and innovate new things which will keep readers engaged and give your blog a tremendous success. Avoid copying and start being innovative.
Avoid Prioritizing Money Over Blog:
Once the blog starts to get traffic and is well optimized for search engines then there are many genuine and non-genuine ways to make money. Genuine things can be like putting CPC ads, private ads and all that stuffs. Non-Genuine can be like writing paid reviews, putting links for money and all that stuff. I don’t say writing paid reviews is wrong but we all know that “Too much of anything is bad” and that implies to it as well. Important reason why you should not write much paid reviews is because of your readers, they might just start to unlike if you write on contents that is actually not worth amention. So always be careful and avoid money which might degrade your blog. Avoid putting too many paid links.
Avoid Putting Pop-Up Ads:
How odd will it be when Sachin Tendulkar is playing on 99 (Cricket) and an advertisement is put up. Wont it be irritating ? well certainly yes and the same is with your visitors. They might be reading your article with such intensity but a pop-ad can break it all, this may also lead to discontinuity of him coming to your blog. If you remember the movie “Social Network” , he said pop-ads can bring only earn me a little but will distract my users ! I know certainly you would know how difficult it is to build traffic and regular readers to your site, you wont want this to be broken for a little money. So avoid putting pop-up ads else the results might not be good.
Avoid Expecting Returns From Your Blog:
I know many people around me who started blogging when I said I earned this much amount from it. Certainly the amount was not big but being a student it was just enough to impress others. The ones who started also wanted to get the same, unfortunately it didn’t happen soon which prompted them to leave the field. I was a bit heart broken that ones who followed on my foot-steps had left blogging. That is why I will say that never expect returns from your blog. Do the work like you pray to god, even god may or may not give your wishes but for that you certainly don’t forget him right ? it is the way to go with blogging as well.
Avoid Being In A Rush:
Patience is one important skill to be successful in the blogging arena, if you don’t have that then it is just a waste of time and disappointment. “A seed in a day doesn’t grow a tree” a well known proverb which sits perfectly on bloggers. Initially you might have millions of problems with you blog but never lose your temper. You may have no readers but work hard to get them. You may want to refer an article to build traffic. So be patient and walk on the path of success.
Certainly there are many more, do write in your comments about what you feel bloggers must not do

I like the part of not blogging to make money initially, which is why I decided not to add any ads to my newer blog (well except for hostgator banner on my sidebar). That way I don’t worry about how much clicks I get. I simply worry about getting more readers. Nice tips..

I couldn’t agree more on the pop-up ads. I can’t believe people still use those and when they do I try to get off of the site as quickly as possible.

I once read a term that completely turn everything around for me. The term is not my own but, in my opinion it is perfect and maybe the rest of your guys have heard of it also: Humand optization. The basic premise is this; write for the audience, not to get rank or to make money although I would add don’t not exclude those goals. Infact you aught to combine them all into one fluid piece.
Learn how to use your makets fears, and desires to draw them in; there is a specific science to this process. If you learn the process and twek it to your specifc market you will be the person that everyone peciees as the authority in connecting to your market through their emotion which I’m sure you all know already is quite criticle to your success.
Great article. Being innovative comes from speaking your mind and just simply penning down your thoughts on a certain topic. Once the thoughts are penned down, there are many tools out there that can transform basic content into a descriptive and intelligent blog. This is just an idea inspired by your point of “Avoid Copying Content” which I highly agree with. Thank you for sharing.

Hello Sandeep,
I enjoyed reading this post from you and I would like to add that the only return I am expecting from blogging is a great network of business minded individuals. I’m looking for the connections to others to build a better path to success. Thanks for the post.

Blogging costs money, especially if self-hosted blog. it’s very difficult to get sponsor ads for not so established blogs.
So I think a balancing act is needed, good content, and an opportunity to earn some money to maintain your blog.
I am strongly against pop-ups.

Oh, yes, the don’t expect money is a good advice. However, my favorite would be the plagiarism advice… plagiarizers do not make money on the internet at all.

Hi Sandeep,
I completely agree with your points. However I would like to swap the 1st two points. I believe the 2nd point is of utmost importance and that is the key for any blog’s success. I see people running after seo, social marketing with just too little content on their blog. Everything is important but one must decide the priorities. Copywriting issues are tricky, most of the times one can avoid the issue by putting the link of the source I believe.
Thanks for this post.
