The Perfect Website
Instructions for a Perfect Website
Is creating a perfect website even possible? Well, I guess that depends on how you would define perfect website, so, that is the first step, define what a perfect website for you would be. One thing for sure, remember the bonsai tree and the balance of looks and function, it does not get more perfect than that.
If you are using WordPress, there are absolutely tons of plugins out there to help you make the site do what you wish for it to be your perfect website. Of course you want your site to be visitor friendly and comments are very important, and since you are reading this on the ComLuv site, take some time and read through what you find here, this is a great site, and be sure to leave a comment.
Step One, My Perfect Website Must ..
This may seem obvious, but believe me, I am sure that you have seen where this step was skipped. Define your perfect website by deciding what purpose that site will have, is it a personal blog, or an online store for a business, a corporate web-presence, maybe a team hang-out for a fan club, or whatever, but pick only one, if you try to do it all in one your visitors will get confused, it is just better to build a second website for each purpose.
Now that you have that worked out, what does this website need to do? What will make it perfect? Write it down on paper, like a legal pad, “I want my perfect website to…” then list these things that the website must be able to do to be perfect for you and your purpose, be thorough, you can always come back to this step, but before you even register a domain name, hammer this step, over an over, you may find out you have bigger things in mind than you started out with.
Step Two, My Perfect Website Must Look Like…
By now, you may have several pages of ideas on what you want the website to do, that is great, now decide what this perfect website should look like. This step is actually less difficult than the first because there are a few basic principles that must be followed, such as;
- The site must be readable, dark text needs a light background, light text needs a dark background and so on. If you look at many websites today, the lighter colors of text, on white backgrounds are hard for many of us to read, so, be nice to those of us with bad eyes.
- Navigation is very critical, fancy pictures with links may look good, but if your visitor can’t find what they are looking for, in just a few seconds, they won’t stick around.
- Colors need to be “eyeball friendly”, bright and blinky things may be pretty in a picture, but a website is more than just a picture, it is a representation of you or your business.
- Sound is a really big “no-no” these days, back in the 90′s things like animated .gif images with sound were all the rage, then came flash and so on, but, luckily sanity is prevailing, so unless you want to run off your visitors, make sound an option that they select, like with a video, they must hit play or it stays quiet. Seriously, something like 90% of people polled hate auto-play sound and will immediately leave a site to get away from the noise.
- Get advice, if you need help, ask for it, WildWebDesigner.com is a great place to get help building your own website.
Now that you have all of that worked out, go to work and make it happen. The only bad website is the one never built, so put yourself into it, build it for you, if you like it, great, because no matter how well you do, there will always be someone that does not like it, this is why I say, build it for you, when you feel that it is the perfect website, it is!
it’s so hard for me to define something, i already change everything of my blog and still does’nt satisfy about it. hha, i think i must send some survey to other people, and make a question “how my blog looks like?” , and maybe it can satisfies me,

David, I really think a lot of us don’t ever create our perfect website, because of what you mentioned, not knowing what we really want from it.
I think for most people, the perfect website or blog happen gradually as they go along, whether its the look of the website, they way they write their content or what have you.
I have had my blog for over a year now and I still am not satisfied with all expects of it including the look of it, but I have learned to listen to my visitors and their reactions to make it a better blog than to my own instinct (at lets in most cases, lol). Thanks.

Hello satrap, that is my point, if having a site that is influenced by your visitors is the goal, then use that and let them know you want their input. One thing to always remember, it is ok to change your mind, just don’t get upset if someone else doesn’t like it, the odds of making everyone happy are not good, it is your site, enjoy it.

Great tips David. They may be simple tips but many people look over them too often.

If something is easy, you aren’t doing it right because the path of least resistance will always end and the further you go down that path, the farther you must travel to get back where you started.
I guess what I am trying to say is that if you don’t know where you are headed, how will you know when you get there?
When you decided to build a website, what was it that motivated you? Just like a brick and mortar business, it takes hard work to make it pay, regardless of how smart you do it! If you build a site from a passion inside you, who could ever say that you did it wrong?
