Where would we be without your Twitter account? I never thought I’d ever say that but now I know the truth.

Whenever there’s a catastrophe, Twitter is the one saving grace that provides a line of communication that can break through the chaos and bring in help. And that’s exactly what happened with the Mumbai terrorist act and the Japanese earthquake.

Can you imagine being involved in a traumatic incident and not knowing that help is on its way? It just might make some people give up hope.

But with Twitter, that spark of hope is provided no matter what happens in your life.

Twitter is a Spark of Hope

Well today, I want to tell you about what I did in Twitter that has really helped my business. It’s a new way to use Twitter that can provide you and your business with a spark of hope, as well.

I know you must be trying to get more twitter followers. I’ve been building my own following since Nov. 2008. That’s a long time ago in computer techie time since many things are vastly different in 2 years than what they were when they started.

Anyway, I got an idea one day to interview an outsourced program manager for TeamLoxly.com. The manager has been a good friend of mine for years.

I explained to Deborah Carney that I just didn’t understand the big deal about Twitter. I mean, really, who cares about what anyone is doing right now in time? That’s what I thought back then, and I realize I was pretty naïve.

Sure, I wanted to get free twitter followers but why, I just didn’t understand.

Deborah Taught Me How to Increase Twitter Followers

Well, what Deborah did was she walked me through Twitter like I had never heard it before. She taught me how to do it the right way. That right way didn’t include telling everyone what I was doing at any moment in time.

And ever since that simple conversation, I have truly never looked back. Learning how to get more twitter followers in the right way was definitely what I needed.

Some software that’s out there to help you get more followers is pretty risky because they use methods that are clearly against Twitter’s rules. And who wants to lose a whole big list of followers that they worked so hard to get? It’s not worth the risk.

The best part about the 3 FREE strategies is that it’s been a huge boost for business. Not only that, but you know those sometimes nauseating business builders who focus on branding and how important it is to your business?

What seems to get me about that whole branding idea is that branding by itself doesn’t make people money. Branding is just one small piece of the puzzle of marketing and not enough to generate the moola.

But once I got this Twitter thing done right, my brand really took off.

What happened for me could also happen for you.

Don’t Do Anything Unless It Meets High Standards

What are you selling? Clothes for dogs? Dental services? Baby strollers? Reclining lift chairs? Bouquets of roses? Pride Mobility lift chairs?

Whatever you are promoting, it doesn’t matter. I am truly confident that my top three strategies are going to get you to jump up and down in joy once they end up getting you more Twitter followers.

It’s not just the followers that matters. It’s that you’ll be planting seeds in the minds of your followers so that when they need your dental services or flower bouquets… presto, they think of you.

That’s the beauty of planting the seeds in Twitter.

All right. Let’s get to the meat of the strategies right now.

My Top 3 FREE Strategies to Get More Twitter Followers

Strategy #1. Time to Start Your Online Newspaper

We all know that content is king. But when your content is put together in a newspaper format that is based on your Twitter list, user or keyword, then the magic can truly start.

You see, it’s not just about having a little newspaper that matters. It’s about the syndication.

Why are newspapers across the U.S. going under? One simple reason. They can’t syndicate. Who cares about news in a city five states away?

But it’s different with Twitter. Here your online newspaper becomes syndicated to the world. You have no limitations.

Whatever you do, include in the bio the most important information: inviting them to follow you! If you don’t ask, you won’t receive.

Being a guest writer is a way to improve your credibility in the community and all with just a little tip here and there. A little strategy here and there.

I challenge you to become a guest writer and get started today!

Strategy #3. Expand on a Simple Thank You

This idea is the brainstorm of the forrmer Director of Online Marketing for the largest and fastest growing hosting company, 1&1 Hosting, Joshua Sloan.

Now I’ve been a full-time internet marketer since 1999 and finished writing my third edition of my ebook around the time Twitter launched, so I have an eye for recognizing a good thing when I see it.

They’ve already agreed to give you their email and name. It’s logical to ask them to follow you on Twitter. This idea is the easiest of all three of the FREE ideas to get more Twitter followers for you.

And I think it’s the best.

Can you see how every one of these 3 strategies will work? You can tap into your own list to get them to follow you. You can tap into other people’s lists to get their followers to follow you. And while you do it, no one breaks any Twitter rules. It’s all as natural as eating ice cream on apple pie.

    Interesting reading, thanks. I have always had an inherant dislike of social media sites which for the very reasons you give, I cannot ignore any more. I have an account (edog does, as a group) but I guess I’m still shy to use it. Believe it could be a generation issue, I’m late 40′s but IM specialist?

    A lot of people don’t understand that Twitter isn’t just something you join because everyone else is doing it. I work with a lot of accountants who think they just need to have a Twitter account because they hear it’s a good idea. But they don’t know why. If only they all could read these 3 strategies, then they’d have a better understanding for the reasoning behind social media accounts. When they’re used for business they don’t need to be about what you’re doing when you’re doing it, but rather as another channel to promote your website content and get followers.

    Within Twitter, it’s also great if you don’t simply have automated link postings. If you take the time to write great Tweet that don’t just promote your site more people will follow you :) And it always helps to follow people back and get engaged.

    I find that just by following others, I can get more followers back in return. Also some forums have a profile option for Twitter, and that helps out too.

    This is a great share for getting good number of followers on twitter, as per my experience as James Martell suggested in this post that dont use software for twitter because one of my twitter account got banned just after using software the money is waste and all the efforts were waste which i used to build the followers list.

    It’s easy to get twitter followers, however it is more difficult to get targeted twitter followers. Guest writing and posting is appealing, but it seems very time consuming. Perhaps it will pay off in the long run if done right, but probably should research the sites involved. No sense spending a lot of time on something that wouldn’t benefit you or your site. Good tips though, I’ll take them into consideration.

    One thing that many of us tend to forget is that numbers dont really matter especially when it comes to twitter. Its the quality that matters.

    If you could choose between 10 targeted followers who are actually interested in what you have to say and 1000 followers that you gathered using a software or what have you, that couldn’t care less about what you have to say, whcih one would you choose?…
