You’ve seen a mouse. Maybe you didn’t actually see a mouse, but you’ve seen enough to know you have a mouse. There’s droppings in your cupboard, food packaging with gnaw marks or holes in your wall. Your first thought may be “I need some serious mouse poison”.

Before you run to the store, read this post to find out the best mouse poison for your needs.

Mouse Poison in Pellets or Blocks?

Mouse poison comes in either pellets or blocks. Which should you get?

If you need to get rid of a mouse problem outdoors, get blocks. If you think you may have a rat infestation, get blocks. Blocks are larger and can be secured by a nail so they won’t wear down due to Mother Nature.

Pellets on the other hand are made to be used indoors. If you’ve got an indoor mouse problem you need to take care of, use pellets.

How to Select the Most Effective Mouse Poison

When you buy mouse poison in block form, look for one with the following:

  • Difenacoum: you want to get a mouse poison that is powerful, offering single-feed anticoagulant to ensure your mouse problem will be solved.
  • Pre-shaped with gnaw edges: the block should be easy for the mouse or rat to bite into. Pre-shaped blocks typically have ridges in them to make for easy gnawing.
  • Year-round control: mouse or rat infestations don’t stop during winter months. You want a mouse poison that can be used all-year round for total protection.

When you buy mouse poison in pellet form, look for one that has the following:

  • Contains difenacoum: this powerful, single feeding anticoagulant ensures the end to your nuisance mouse or rat, in between 3 and 5 days.
  • Easy-to-Use: some are packaged in convenient trays. Look for trays that will fit in slim places. Mouse poison you are able to place without touching it is ideal. Peel and then place designs are easy-to-use and keep you from having to handle the poison directly.

For After the Mouse Has Been Exterminated

Once you’ve taken care of your rodent issue with mouse poison, you should consider placing some mouse repellent to keep them away.

One of the best ways to keep rodents away is by using high-frequency sound waves. Look for a device that’s backed by decades of research and proven field results.

The sounds waves should be emitted at a non-repetitive pattern for optimal repelling.
