Starting your own business can be daunting, especially a green business. This is especially the case if you want to stay true to your values and create a green business which incorporates the principles of sustainability – that is, a business that meets your needs without compromising the needs of others and the planet. When starting a green business, you will need to consider how your business will be profitable whilst improving environmental and social capital. How will your business satisfy the Triple Bottom Line?
Green Business Options
When starting a sustainable, or ‘green’, business, most entrepreneurs will consider the following options.
- Take a conventional business and ‘green’ up management and processes.
- Make an existing product or service ‘green’ in nature.
- Invent a brand new ‘green’ product or service and introduce it to the market.
- Trade existing ‘green’ products or services with an online or real world shop.
I believe there is another viable option that is often overlooked, and that is to become an independent representative for a network marketing company that sells ‘green’ products and incorporates sustainability into their operations.
Option 5 – Green Business via Network Marketing
Network marketing gives individuals the opportunity to start their very own business without having to go it alone. As a representative, you are supported with training, marketing materials, team member experience and an existing product range. Everyone has an equal chance at succeeding in network marketing dependent on hard work and persistence.
Choosing this option can be very wise if you are new to owning your own business. There is a very low start-up cost compared to other businesses; you do not need to stress about product development, manufacturing, stock or transportation and you do not manage staff but rather, team members all working for themselves.
With network marketing, your daily tasks will involve building strong relationships with people, helping others to achieve their goals and sharing your knowledge and experience with others. No longer about hard sales, network marketing embraces the laws of ‘attraction marketing’ whereby people are drawn to leaders who continually give value and provide solutions to their problems.
Choosing the right Green Business
There are many different network marking companies so it is important to do your research. Remember, you will be a ‘representative’ of this Company and product line so you want to ensure they do business with integrity and aligned to your values. Make sure their ‘green‘ credentials are correct, or even certified. This will give you peace of mind and a great base to confidently promote the products and Company business opportunity with ease.

As the cost of living increases I feel a lot of buisnesses will work to become green buisnesses.
It may not be so out of want but out of necessity.

Thanks for your comment John, I agree that doing business that adheres to the Triple Bottom line (for people, planet and profit) will become the norm rather than the alternative. It is the only way we can move forward sustainably. Cheers!

Wow love that expression the Triple Bottom line. Actually I am sorry for agreeing with John. But I do believe that the companies starting to make the difference now, will lead the future.

It is really hard to start a green business. Most of the big earners are harmful to the environment but if i get to find a successful green product then i might consider becoming a network marketer for that product.

Hello Farrell,
Thanks for your comment. I, too, found it hard to find a green business that met my high standards (eg certification, products of value). For me, this was important as I wanted my business to be so much more than money – but a passion and contributing to moving green business forward.
If you are in fact searching for a green network marketing business, please feel free to pop over to my blog where you can find more information about my company and me, and contact me with any queries.
Cheers, merry christmas!

Encouraging the employees to get involved in their own philanthropic initiatives—whether by donating company money or services, or giving them flexible working hours to support their volunteering efforts—has had broad-reaching effects. It’s not easy to get an entire company behind an initiative, but encouraging the employees to recommend and drive philanthropic ventures has resulted in happier employees and a more positive relationship with our community. While not every company or individual may be able to afford monetary donations, there’s plenty you can do on a smaller level that still has a big impact.

Hi Emily,
You have discussed an important aspect to keeping employees happy and working hard on your team – and that is to include their interests and ideas into company policy and practice. Your idea is a good one and will contribute to the social and environmental efforts of a ‘sustainability’ business. Thanks!

I don’t think many people consider a green business when they start out, but pretty soon they will have to.

Yes, I think as we move forward into the future, business will have to incorporate aspects of social and environmental sustainability in order to be accepted and viable (savings made by reducing resource usage and reducing waste output). Cheers

That true Rachael, as I myself started to learn intenet marketing to try to earn money from here, do not have to work in an office which is outside the house all day, was initially very confused, but I have tried to study and learn to be able to achieve the desired, so I need a variety of information sharing, thank you

I think its very hard these days to create a totally green business. Most businesses do not have zero carbon foot print, even the simplest of businesses have some footprint. So although i am fully in favour of green businesses i tihnk it will be very difficult to achieve.
