I’ve managed to scrape a few spare moments in front of the pc to complete the beta version of Intense Debate CommentLuv.

intensedebate

It didn’t take any particularly difficult code to produce because those nice folks at Automattic coded the ID plugin to use filters and actions just like WordPress does so ‘hooking’ in the code took a lot less time than I thought.

It’s just been approved by the ID team so you’ll be able to select it as a plugin from the ID dashboard. If you already have WordPress CommentLuv installed, you’ll need to disable it if you want to use the ID version.

Here’s what it looks like in the comments at GingerWench

idexample

It’s a really simple install. Just visit your ID dashboard and go to the plugins link. A little bit down the page is the link to activate CommentLuv.

IDcomluvplugin

One little click and your IntenseDebate comment form will start to show the CommentLuv badge and move the url field to just below the textarea.

idloggedonclformidloggedoffclform

Once you have your url entered, clicking the textarea fires the plugin to go and fetch your last post.

I really look forward to this release. I have recently installed intense debate after removing disqus mainly for the inability to remove no follow.

Has the CommentLuv plugin for Disqus been released? I have been reading around tweets about it, but could not find out. Ultimately, I though, I should ask the source.
Could you please let me know?

as of right now, the possiblity of a Disqus commentluv is not good because their API only allows the fetching and posting of the comments. There isn’t a way yet to filter the comment or fire actions based on certain things happening in the iframe they use for the comment text area.

They’re always updating the api so I imagine when they see ID getting commentluv they’ll be all jealous and stuff ;)

After doing some research, I’ve also learned that Disqus doesn’t remove the “rel=nofollow” attribute on the links used in comments, while IntenseDebate does… so using IntenseDebate with CommentLuv is actually a better fit in my opinion.

(SEO argument about “link juice” and “neighborhoods” aside) ;)

disqus use an iframe for their comment entry which means that no javascript in the world will be able to interact with it. Until they remove the iframe, there will be no commentluv for disqus. (unless they have an api which will allow me to add to the comment text before it gets submitted which they told me wouldn’t happen)

best thing to do would be to download your full template and keep a copy of it saved just in case you need to revert back to what you’re already using.

the only thing you need to worry about with having many plugins is the amount of extra resource they consume and how much time they add to the loading of your page.

Does comment luv work with other comment tools beside Intense Debate? I am not happy with Intense Debate and it takes FOREVER for them to resolve issues. Right now, you can not post a comment from the front page, you have to click on the post itself. I think this can discourage people to comment. Plus, it would be nice to see all the comments from the first page, without clicking on each post. I have emailed IntenseDebate, but it takes so long to get back.

    Does CommentLuv work another way??

your only option is wordpress or intense debate.
i am not sure of a blogging system that lets you see the comments on the front page of posts. Even here doesn’t do that, you have to click the post title to go to the comments.
