The whole point of SEO or search engine optimization is to establish visibility and web presence more effectively. This process will boost the ranking of a website and bring it closer to the top results. Therefore, more customers will be able to view the landing page of your site and will provide significantly increased viewers over time. This kind of promotion is most sought out by companies who want to gain more visitors in their website, most especially those agencies who have just started breaking in to the industry.

Be careful of scammers

However, there are a number of companies who have been scammed by so-called SEO specialists and end up losing money as the approach was being implemented. Improving your page’s rank in popular search engines takes months, even up to a year to attain, not overnight. Some of these “SEO experts” take the faster route by playing the field dirty. They use unethical ways to direct traffic to a website and one of which is the repetitive use of keywords. Top search engines do not condone this approach because of the obvious manipulation. Keyword density in an article or content should only have a certain percentage. About 2%-5% is enough per write up. If your SEO continues to use repetitive keywords, then you are a very good candidate for a lifetime ban in these popular search engine sites.

Beware of fake landing pages

Another improper scheme is by having a fake landing page. A landing page is the page or site you will be directed to upon clicking a link or URL. Guests will be directed to a landing page that is not at all related to the keyword it indicates to have. In other words, viewers were tricked to land in your page with no relevant information on what they are researching. For example, you title a page “Offshore Business Formation Jurisdictions” when in reality this is a page about weight loss and eating healthy.

You have to keep in mind that web content is the key to directing traffic. Keywords are strategically used to target specific audiences wanting to gain more information on a specific topic. You should settle on a keyword or phrase that will most likely be entered in a search engine box.

SEO companies sometimes supply or hire third party firms that provide web content or articles. As the owner of the website, you should carefully screen which write ups should be published in your site. Quality control is very important because potential clients will use these materials as a basis in forming their impression towards your company.

Before going ahead and hiring an SEO service, have a little background check on the company’s reputation. It is better to spend a little more on an established company that guarantees results than having an agency that is willing to work around a budget but cannot deliver a favorable outcome.

  2. eZine Articles has an excellent “proofing” when you submit an article it will reject it if there is more than 5% keyword density and is among the best free article submissions to proof an article. All one has to do is simply cut/paste their blog post and check it against what eZine Articles thinks, or use a WordPress plugin (only ones I know of are paid).

Their check though is very accurate and helps make sure articles of quality, they inspect length, title…etc So is a good way to “train” yourself on writing blog articles by running a few in eZine Articles first.

Nice post. There is no shortcut to SEO. The best advice still is hard work and the true that you need to be patient. It takes time to build up good relations and networks online. Unfortunately there are many companies that think that they can skip the hard work and buy a quick solution.

I’ve been able to get my site to page 4 of Google over the last 7 months without paying for help. I’m just not sure what else to do to get it higher? It may just take some time.

What kind of screening procedures for SEO companies do you suggest?

I agree with you there is no shortcut to SEO . Most of the times these so called SEO specialist that promise you the top rankings in search engines in few days use very unethical ways. It is really important to do a lot of research while hiring a SEO expert and to stay away from these kind of SEO ‘Specialists’

    Hi Eugene,

I agree, the customers want great SEO results in as less as possible amount of time. SEO is a very hard work that not anyone can do it, I mean, anyone can do it, but not everyone can do it properly or/and with real effects. There is no shortcut to #1 in SERP, it is very true. A lot of SEO ‘experts’ nowadays use spam and illegal methods of boosting their traffic and PR, those are very bad methods that, sooner or later will be defaced and banned. That’s why you got to keep it clean and fair-play in order to get good results. Thank you for sharing this excellent article, keep up the good work !

    Best regards,

eZine Articles have in fact just update there content proofing rules and have therefore added extra value to their article by improving the quality of new article. This will help improve the seo value, I believe, by increasing the authority (no seo sense) of the site by reducing spamy or badly written articles.

Avoiding SEO scams is easy, picking out the companies that might be telling the truth and are actually worth doing business with is the hard bit.
