Final update

I’ve made an update to the CommentLuv plugin and uploaded it to the offical wordpress plugin repository.

This is the last update to the original plugin before I release the v2.9 (free) version. I recommend that you download it because this gives a little hint to what you can expect to see in 2.9 and that’s nofollow control.

Download nofollow control CommentLuv

It is a good idea to update your CommentLuv plugin to v2.818 so you can take control of the links that are appended to the comment. You can update it in the dashboard by using the automatic update in wordpress or you can visit the download page and update it manually here.

thanks! I can’t wait to get into the guts of it and see just what it can do! I already have concept code and I know that works, now I just have to glue it all together in a stable and friendly plugin!

Oh beautiful Andy, I was wondering if you were working on something like that. I’ve been using Lucia’s Link Love to handle dofollow but as of WP 3 it has been giving me errors on posting – it will be nice to have that option built into CommentLuv. I don’t suppose there will be an option to go dofollow after a certain number of comments coming in 2.9??

  3. Hi Andy,

I updated the plugin. If I want to be a dofollow, which box should I check?
    Thanks for your help.

Nice addition for those that want to control dofollow and nofollow. Hopefully it defaults to dofollow to keep the link juice flowing on most sites.

I really like because it supports CommentLuv dofollow links, and such a magical object that can read our articles automatically from a place that we did not expect before. Update function of CommentLuv would have awaited its loyal users like me

I personally think that this is not a good idea. Sure there are a lot of spammers out there but as I am observing it lately the majority of users are now just setting it up to no-follow for everyone. This plugin should not be a spam filter. I think that do-follow attribute was the key feature for this plugin to be so successful. Off course it is good to interact with other bloggers but let’s face it the majority of visitors come from google and the do-follow attribute was boosting google as well, so you had a win win situation. I for myself will leave it to do-follow for quality comments.

    Cheers,

I leave the dofollow on and use a few other plugins to capture spam content. So far I’ve not seen an increase in bogus posts but there has been a nice jump in real feedback and posts.

It seems people today have become overly spoiled with their expectations. Nothing will ever be 100% perfect for 100% of the people.

I for one applaud Andy. Not only for having the ability, knowledge and desire to create such a thing, but also for his involvement and communication within the CommentLuv user community during the entire development cycle.

A plugin of this magnitude takes the user experience back to where it was 15 years ago before spamming polluted the usenet groups and overflowed into the browser world. He coded it with people like us in mind and it allows the honest folk to benefit.

It may not be perfect for you but would you be better off if it wasn’t available in the first place?
