There are the things you should check if you’re not getting your latest blog post returned when you comment on CommentLuv enabled sites, it has all the major things that cause people to scream at their PC (and sometimes me!).
I’ll republish this any time something new is discovered so eventually it will have all the things that can cause people problems and will hopefully become the ultimate resource for anyone having a problem with CommentLuv (which in most cases, turns out not to be a problem with CommentLuv itself but, a problem with the user data or feed).
Please go through each of these before you submit a support ticket. It will save me (and you) a lot of time if you spend just 5 minutes trying each of these things…
Check that the post is visible on your feed.
The easiest and quickest thing to check is to view your feed in your browser. If you use firefox browser, it will show a feed icon in your address bar when you visit your site. Click that and choose the first option that shows for subscribe. (CommentLuv uses the first feed found to parse your latest posts)
If you can see your latest post there then you’ve eliminated one possible cause.
Visit your feed in your browser!
In case you missed it above… if your latest posts are not showing when you comment, try to view your feed in your browser. Commentluv can only bring back what your feed sends it, if your feed is not showing your latest post then CommentLuv wont be able to send it back when you’re making a comment.
This is the number one reason why people say, “Commentluv is not working!”, it actually is working, it’s just that their feed isn’t available or is broken!!
Make sure you’re feedburner feed is up to date in your header
Feedburner have changed their URL format to http://feeds2.feedburner.com/youaccount .Many people still have the old autodiscovery feed address in their header. If you do, update it! If you use the feedsmith plugin then make sure you have updated that url too. Click the image above to see an old feedburner link as the autodiscovery feed
Looks like feedburner have gone back to the original URL method and you no longer need to use feeds2.feedburner as the start of the URL. I put in a script to change the feeds2 to feeds but if your feed url still has a 2 in it, go to the member page and change it back to the original feeds.feedburner.com/youraccount
Click the little arrow next to the last posts that shows when you’re typing your comment and see how much time is left on the cache. Non members get their last request cached for 24 hours so if you make a post or two after you have commented somewhere, they wont be shown until your cache is refreshed at the time shown on the pull down menu
Check your feed url at the member page
Visit http://comluv.com/member/ (make sure you’re logged in first) and check your site details to see what feed url is listed. If it hasn’t got one or it’s out of date, enter the URL for the site feed you know to be working
If you’re commenting whilst logged on then you need to make sure that your URL is stored in your profile of your own site. Visit your dashboard and go to Users/Your Profile and enter your URL in the field marked ‘website’.
Always always ALWAYS!! use http:// in front of your url when you comment. It’s the http:// bit that tells commentluv that the text you put in that box is a web address and not just some random piece of text.
This is the number one reason for frustrated users who can’t figure out what’s wrong!
Check for a typo
If you’ve noticed that some sites get your last blog post but others don’t, this could be the reason. Some sites automatically fill in the fields of the comment form if you’ve commented there before. If you made a typo or for some reason, the cookie got corrupted then it might not be the EXACT same url that you used to register to ComLuv.com.
Check to see that your url is the same as the one you registered, that means if you registered with www then use www (and vice versa).
You would be surprised at how many tickets and emails come in because of this! If you aren’t getting the last blog post shown, go back and manually type in your url again just to be sure. (if you’re Irish, to be sure to be sure)

you’re probably commenting whilst logged on to your site and you haven’t updated your profile with your website url. visit your dashboard, go to users/your profile and fill in the field for your website url. Commentluv uses the value here for your site if you’re logged on because the comment form wont show a url field for logged on users.
Yeah, mine isn’t updating either… I’m actually running a design contest at my site, trying to choose between the current theme and a different theme (minimalist, whereas it’s content heavy now), and I’d hoped to do some CommentLuv’n tonight and get some responses from some of the great designers!
Maybe it’ll update later…

if it’s not working on your own blog it will probably be because you haven’t added your site url to the website field in your profile, visit your dashboard and go to users/your profile and make sure you have a website url entered in your personal information section.
I have been struggling with this for weeks. I don’t know what I am doing wrong. Maybe it isn’t me. This site showed my latest post on Friday morning – http://www.freelancewritinggigs.com/2010/05/how-should-you-dress-for-a-client-meeting/
But this site still did not grab newest post on Saturday evening – http://jimsmarketingblog.com/2010/05/28/a-simple-way-to-stay-on-your-readers-radar/#respond
I waited all day today for that second site to cache again, but still it would only show the older post. It tells me I need to get an account but when I follow the link, all my info pops up.
I am never able to choose from 10 posts. I am not sure what I have done wrong. Is that I haven’t put comment love on my site? I am just making sure it works first.

the first site showed your latest post because you commented with the EXACT url as the one you registered.
the second site does not show because you did not use the exact URL that you registered. Hover your mouse over your name on the jimsmarketingblog comment, you can see you added www to your url for that one. http://WWW.something .com is not the same as something.com
let me repeat that ..
the comment you made here doesn’t have www so it shows the post that is at the top of your feed. Please see the post below to read more about it from someone who has much gentler words than I..

Hi Andy –
Yesterday my comments stopped showing up in sites who use ComLuv. At first I got “no blog posts to return” and then I got “too many accesses for this IP, please wait a moment” before it would revert back to “no blog posts to return.”
I’ve reviewed my user details several time, and other than truncating the feed:// and final / off the feed address when I save, the details are correct. I’ve also added the URL in my WP profile.
Any other ideas what I might be doing wrong?
Thank you kindly, sir.

usually in cases where it works here but not at other sites is because you’re logged in and the value you have stored in the website you are commenting on is missing. You can visit your profile page on the site you are logged in on and check to make sure there is your url in the field in personal information marked ‘website’
if that’s not the case then double and triple check how you are entering your url. make sure you have not used a comma (,) instead of a period (.) between www and graceweis and com
it looks like that might be the case on your comment. you have entered www, not www. (small difference between comma and period)
if it works here and you’ve used a comma then that means you entered your url incorrectly when you registered your site at the member page, go back and delete the entry on the member page and re-register but this time, make sure you enter your url correctly (do not use comma !)
thanx for the tips..
