Twitter Field in all comment forms
Posted by Andy Bailey on September 27th, 2009
I’ve added a new plugin to all ComLuv blogs that adds an extra field to your post/page comment form so users can add their Twitter username along with their comment. The follow me link is added to below their name by default.
You can change the position, format and html using the settings page of your ComLuv blog dashboard.
This is the first plugin of it’s kind that is compatible with WPMu. You can download it for your own WPMu or Wordpress 2.8+ at the TwitterLink Comments download page.

Nice one! I use CommentLuv on my blog (linked) and look forward to posters putting this feature to work.

thanks Andrea!
it’ll be my entry into the wpmu.dev contest for this year. I spent quite a long time making sure it’s WPMu and Multi-db compatible and also secure enough to allow sub-blogs to specify their own html without posing a security risk to the Mu administrator.
Plenty twitterers = plenty votes (I hope!)

It’s exclusive to this network at the moment while it gets some live testing, I’ll be releasing it as an entry to the wpmu.dev contest soon so it’ll get a download link as soon as I upload it to the wordpress repository and write my entry post.
if you want a preview copy, just submit a support ticket and I’ll reply with the zip file attached

Are you making a blogger version of this, I think it would be a very good addition because a major part of the traffic comes twitter.

there are many comment systems that allow you to put your twitter id in the comments for blogger and i get too many support requests as it is from blogger users who don’t read instructions so I will keep this wordpress only I think!

it’s already available on your comluv blog!
You’ll be able to download it once WP approves my request to host it on their system

Awesome! I can’t wait to add this to my blog… the comment trifecta would be CommentLuv, TwitterLink and Retweet comments… where re-tweets of our blog posts were automatically added to our blog comments.
Any plans to integrate twitterlink and commentluv into the same plugin?

I think it’s best to keep them separate, not everyone wants a twitter field on their form. It’s not too hard to install either one so I doubt I’ll integrate them.
thanks for visiting and RT’ing the post!

Hi Andy,
I’ll be launching my first WP site next week and your plug-in comes at the right time.
Installation was quick and without problems and everything worked right out of the box. So a big “Thank you” from me.
Just 1 feature request: it would be great to be able to change the background color for the field description box from the settings page. The less such noobs as myself have to mess around with the plug-in code, the better.
Thanks again,
Marko

Glad you like the plugin!
The best and easiest way to change the background colour and look of the box would be to change the class name used for the div in the settings and then just add the style you want to your style sheet.
I’ll look into seeing if I can add a style box in the settings page and see if that would make things easier

Andy,
I’ve been following you around so much that I forgot what this post was about – had to look back at the top. I’ve just finished sorting out the feedburner RSS configuration so that I can get links (brilliant). Next, I did the register your site (again) and it worked so that when I click the red downward arrow, different post options show up (double brilliant). I’ll come back again and see what else I can find. I got a bit confused about the WP vs feedburner RSS: if I disengage feedburner plug-in will WP automatically take over or do I need to install another WP widget?
My head is spinnning. Enough for today. A thousand blessings on you and the ones you love.
Cheryl

how nice of you to let me know!
don’t worry, if you get rid of the feedburner plugin then wordpress will take over and it’ll be able to do cool things like provide feeds for category specific sections. like http://comluv.com/category/news/feed for a feed on just the news category. If you try that with the feedburner plugin, it’ll just go to the standard feed.
hurray for wordpress!
double hurray for people that come and tell me nice things in the comments

I was curious with comluv plug-ins but I found it helpful since it reflect my recent posts after i wrote a comment on other blog. As for the twitter fields, it is good to know about it.
