The bug

For some sites on some hosts with some particular settings, it seems commentluv would cause a 404 file not found error when someone makes a comment. I spent some time trying to figure it out and it turned out to be caused by a hidden field that contained a HTML link. I’ve split that into 2 fields, one for the url and one for the title and that fixed the problem.

[edit] had to update to 2.7691 . A minor issue with people that have an additional url and choose one of those posts when they comment would result in first link being used instead. That is fixed with a minor edit to the javascript include. thanks http://bestheartratemonitorwatch.net for pointing it out.

:)

Feedback

I would not have been able to find this bug or test the fix if it weren’t for the wonder of Twitter, I found out about it within minutes of it happening and with the help of other tweeps (above) I tracked down the cause and issued a fix within a couple of hours. Oh how this has saved me from an influx of support tickets.
