I just started to comment on other people’s blogs. Thanks for your article. I found it helpful and introduced me to some new widgets that I had never been exposed to and could use on my site. I especially liked your idea of thanking first time guests. I know I’ve been thanked when I post to a site and it always surprises me and encourages me to come back again to the site.

You are so right! I never realized how mant things must be done to a blog and I do think that it is important for me to understand them. I think that I need to go to Kim’s blog everyday, carve out 30 minutes and implement one strategy per day!

Kim — awesome post. I use a most of the plugins you mentioned, but one I don’t is the nested one. I have been debating about that for a while. I’ve seen site that do this well and others that don’t (mostly those that don’t do it well). Will definitely check it out. Who knows maybe this weekend there will be a change

Hey Clincal, welcome to blogging! The first tip is about finding a theme that only displays about the first 200 words of each post on the home page. That is called an excerpt. If your theme doesnt do that (and instead shows the whole post but not comments), then this plugin will give you that effect. Hope that helps!
