Blog Pinging is still considered as an effective way to notify search engines. Even though most of the webmasters already knew this pinging hack, most of the newbies are still asking what is pinging? How to ping? When to ping? what are the best services to do it? and How many services should I use at a time? For those all who are having these questions, I decided to give my opinion and my practice on blog pinging.
What is pinging?
Pinging is process of sending packet of data to the search engines to notify that you have updated your blog with new content. It notifies the search engine bots to visit your blog and crawl it as soon as possible. This is not the definition of pinging, this is just a simple explanation of pinging.
How to ping?
There are many services that provide a platform to ping your blog. Almost all those services are automated processes. There are both free and premium services for blog pinging on web.
What information you need to fill on pinging of your blog?
Usually you need several information to complete your blog pinging process. Basically you must fill your website title, website link and feed address to complete the pinging form. If you are blogging on wordpress you can add pinging list to your wordpress dashboard too.
When to ping your blog?
This is the most important part of this article. Most of the newbies to blogging are asking this question everywhere on forums. The simple answer is you should ping your blog after you update it. Each time after you adding new content to your blog, you are permitted to notify the search engines. Then search engine bots will crawl your new pages and index them in the correct category of the search engine.
What is over pinging?
Over pinging is the process of pinging your blog over and over again without updating your content.
Effect of over pinging
The newbies are not really have a good idea on SEO (Search Engine optimization). Even though they think pinging will index their blogs instantly because of they are pinging it more frequently, it may not going to happen. Over pinging will considered as automated process by search engines. Search engines considered it as spamming. I think you know what is spamming? Anyway spamming is a process you send same data everywhere in web which are not useful to the internet community. If search engines considered your pinging is kind of a spamming, what they do is they block your URL/web address. The ultimate result is the banning of your website from search engine. So what is the point of having a website which is not indexed in Google?
How many Pinging services should I used at once?
This is another very common question that almost all the new bloggers are asking. Usually I am using only two pinging services at once to ping my blog. But I never send the same post twice in to a same search engine. Some people are looking for hundreds of blog pinging services. But what the point of having too many, if you only going to use two or three pinging services at once?
This is my opinion on blog pinging and how I deal with blog pinging. I have already got good results by using the above mentioned method so far. I think you can also get some better results by applying this strategy to your blog too.
Sometimes you may have some different opinion on blog pinging. I always respect the opinions of others. So feel free to start a discussion below to make a better strategy for blog pinging.

When you post any new content with wordpress it is automatically set to ping the new post. You really should not need to submit your post to 1001 and pinging services.
Ping services really come into their own when used in conjunction with and link building campaign.

Yes, WordPress has inbuilt pinging service. So you don’t need to do it manually. But the platforms like blogger don’t have this feature. That is why the blogger users need to ping their posts manually.

I use maxblogpress-ping-optimizer plugin on my site, you can setup an option to reduce the amount of pings. I also go to Pingler.com to keep my list of ping service websites updated.

Yes if you are blogging on wordpress it has inbuilt pinging service, but what about the other blogging platforms like blogger? They don’t have it inbuilt, isn’t it? That is why they need a pinging service to notify search engines.

I don’t use any pinging service. For my blog, I have installed Google Sitemap XML plugin. It automatically pings search engines whenever I post a new blog entry. Sending too many pings without any real updates can do harm in the long run.

Pinging is an essential process for a new blog. But not that much effective for a new blog since search engine bots come to old sites with good content even without pinging.

Absolutely No. This pinging is most effective for the new blogs where the Google bots are not visiting too often.

This is true that one should nover try to over ping the blog, or else you might get penalised by search engine, and one you are penalized it;s tough to get ranking again. Content is the only king just keep writing fresh contents and do link building that’s the only way to rank high.

This article is a very good source for people that are new or confused about the concept of pinging. Even if I am in the internet marketing business for some time, there are still a lot of things that i know very little of.
I truly believe that information can really help you from making huge mistakes with your blog promotion.
I very much believe in the natural link building concept, so driving SE crazy by pining them to death can not have any positive effects.
Besides, Google indexes pages very quickly. Ranking them is always the problem.

With the Penguin update Google has more focused on content rather than links. That is because anyone can make links but only few people can make valuable content. But it is a must to say that still linkbuilding has a place in SEO.

Made some really good points here, as you quite rightly mentioned, newbies may constantly ping their blogs not realizing it is doing more harm than good. You need to ping you blog now and then so it is recognized by the search engines. As Gowtham said though, you don’t need to ping on a Wordpres site as it ping automatically for you when you post.

I used PushPress PlugIn for WordPress. This PlugIn will do automatic Ping everytime we post an article.

This is an interesting query to be addressed. I would like to explain this by quoting a famous and simple instance we come across, often. I heard a junior last year, advising her friend to update her CV almost every day so that the employers looking for prospective candidates will find her CV at the top. I laughed out and asked her to tell me what was she to update 365 days? She just said that, she updates virtually nothing except for changing punctuation. Does this make any sense? It is always good to update a blog when one has to add something new to it.

Well, I have automatic pinging on my website. So I do this twice a month just to make sure enough traffic on my website.
I use wordpress so don’t need to ping my blog. I think the way Google crawls it might not be necessary to do this.

Yes as I mentioned on earlier comments there is no need to ping wordpress blogs since it has a inbuilt system to ping your posts.

HI Merry… Use ping service when you do any change in your onpage always ping your link. It notifies to all search engines that you have made a change.

Anything in excess is always harmful. I never do manual pings, infact I never knew what pinging was. Why would anyone want to ping repeatedly? They should instead use there time to write new articles/blog posts or perhaps read a few good articles.

Honestly, I smile when I’d read the title. This tactic is really effective if you want to get your latest blog post crawled by search engines. But unfortunately some abuse it. I think it’s best to ping every 24 hrs.

From what I’ve gathered here and on other resources on the net, pinging will help and is useful to you and others only when you have new content or posts on your site. As you said, ping when you update your site. It will have no impact or an adverse effect if you ping a static page or site. Thank you for your contribution.

1) Regularly post articles on your blog
2) Give some valuable info to the community
3) Publish unique and original content
4) Do on page and off page optimizations
5) Involve more with social networks
