If you are anything like me, you probably find it hard trying to get your kids to eat healthy food. We all know the idea of having to eat five portions of fruit and veg a day, but it is not always that easy. Kids are some of the fussiest eaters out there, and if it doesn’t taste nice they may plainly refuse to eat it.

This makes the job of a parent difficult. It is our job to ensure our own kids develop well, and that is only really done through eating healthily. And unfortunately, healthy foods often tend to be those that are the least tasty, Mark Twain said – “˜The only way to keep your health is to eat what you don’t want and drink what you don’t like’.

This, unfortunately, is really just a fact of life. Even though some foods are tasty they are not always good, and most adults can understand this – it is kids who find it difficult.

Convincing Kids to Go Cultural

The problem is that children don’t want to have to do things that are unpleasant, including eating anything not nice. I have many dreadful memories of Brussels sprouts and the lengths my parents went to for me to eat them. It can be difficult to convince kids of what they don’t wish to hear.

The trick that I have found though, is to do new dishes. Kids get just as tired of the same food over and over as they do of eating healthy foods they don’t like – you need to ensure that you vary what you feed them. Even if you keep ingredients fairly similar, if you can find ways to present it that they haven’t encountered before then they will be more than happy to try them. But how can you vary the dishes?

I’ve had my fair share of failed dishes, but the best way to go if you want guaranteed success is to use famous dishes from different cultures. Italian food for example is some of the best out there in my opinion, so if you haven’t

tried feeding your kids pasta dishes very much then it could be a good idea to do for some of these. You have many options available to you, such as:

  • Basic spaghetti
  • Tagliatelli
  • Carbonara
  • And even pizza

Any of these can be made healthy with the right ingredients, so it is just your job to make sure you are able to feed the right food to your kids.

The Right Ingredients

You may also find it difficult to know the right ingredients. These meals can take time to prepare, but it is far better if you do it at home rather than having to pay to go out to a restaurant often. There are ways you can cut costs.

If you buy basic ingredients, and then use equipment at home, it can be really effective. Using electric meat slicers for home use, for example, can really help you to make the meals far faster than you might imagine, meaning it is well worth the time you spend making it, given the effectiveness of making this type of food.

Hopefully, if you follow this advice, you should start to see a marked improvement in the amount that your kids eat, especially when it comes to healthier foods. If you manage to do this it will really help with your children overall – there is a reason that healthy diets are encouraged. If your kids tend to be overweight then hopefully you will see an improvement there, or if they seem to be lacking in growth or don’t have the right minerals, ensuring you put in vegetables and get them to eat fruit will really help.

Overall it is up to you how you go about doing it, but you should begin to see things working out well, with your kids being more willing to eat what you give them.
