Nowadays guest posting has become a trend and is one of the most successful method for bloggers to get quality backlinks, targeted traffic and subscribers. Before going ahead first of all let me explain what does guest posting mean? Guest posting is the way of getting a post for your blog which is written by some one else i.e, by other blogger or webmaster. Whenever we talk about getting higher search engine rankings, guest posting is the first idea which strikes our mind to get quality backlinks from other high ranked blogs or websites. Accepting guest posts on your blog is always a good idea to add variety on your blog posts but it may have some disadvantages too which can easily gets you in deep trouble. So, keeping some of the harmful effects in mind I’m going to share some of the reasons why you should not accept guest posts on your blog.

1. Off Topic

No one likes to see a travel story on a finance blog, this is what where the perfect niche comes into play and obviously, no one likes to get these type of guest posts on his/her blog. As the guest posting becomes a powerful method to get quality backlinks from high ranked blogs there are a lot of Peoples who try to spam with their off topic articles just to get some links for their sites.

2. Loss of Readers

For an instance let us consider an example, suppose you are a regular reader of Labnol.org & you love the way Amit write articles in it and when you saw guest posts on the same site by some other bloggers, the way of writing the things changes from one author to other and it’s not possible every time that you like the posts which will completely disappoints you. So, There must be a possibility of losing your loyal readers when you accept guest posts on your blog.

3. Copied Content

Content is the most important thing that you should take care of because it’s not always true that every thing written on internet is the original one but it may be copied from somewhere else like newspapers, magazines and other books. So, it’s not possible every time that the copied

content comes in plagiarism tools, I must admit that if you receive several guest posts today then many of them are either copied or modified from other sources. It can impact your site’s reputation in search engines and so you should delete the copied content as soon as possible.

A few webmasters also feel lazy to check if the  content is copied or not. You can consider me as an example – I run 4 blogs and have very few people employed. Hence I do not get time to check if the guest post has been copied and I publish posts I like or which I think are interesting.

4. Blacklisted by Search Engines

Some times you get a good quality posts as guest posts on your blog but they may link to inappropriate websites and you can’t deny that posts because of its quality & relevancy of your blog which can be useful for your blog readers. You allow that guest posts to be published on your blog but it may be the case that sites you are linking in the posts is already blacklisted by the major search engines like Google and you will have the strong chances to be blacklisted by the search engines.

5. Self Promotion

Self promotion is also the most important factor to think about before you accept guest posts on your blog. Often when I receive guest posts on my blog I have seen a lot of users trying to promote their own links in the post which has nothing to do with what they are writing about & it is also not useful to the readers of the blog. If you start publishing that type of self promotional posts on your blog it will always annoy your blog readers and you will have strong chances to loss them.

These are the some of the main reasons that why you should not accept guest posts on your blog, if you allow guest posts on your blog then you should concentrate more to check out all above mentioned things first because it may lose your regular readers. A better idea is to layout all rules in the “Write for us page”, the best example could be Comluv’s write for us page which not only displays the guidelines to be followed but also shows you why you should write for the Comluv network.

Don’t forget to share your thoughts with us on guest posting below in the comments section.

There are many tools through which you can check either the content is copyrighted to or not! However I’m not in the favor of Guest Posting as well unless I knew the person and the content one provided.

I have had a few people submit guest posts to me and while it was about what my subject matter was, they just did not seem like they were knowledgeable about it. Seemed so copy and pasted and like they submitted it to a number of posts. Only way I accept them now is if the person writing has a site similar to mine.
