I would also recommend Wordle. You just stick your URL in it, and then it gives you a creative-looking cloud tag to tell you what your web page is about. That can help you how to better optimize your pages for SEO so that Google knows what your pages are supposed to be about.

Some people suggest that pinging has gone the way of the dinosaur. I’ve seen a few tests that show it doesn’t have any effect these days, but they were done on well-indexed and crawled websites.
CSS compressor is great, I use it to compress my style.css files.

In terms of port testing, yougetsignal.com can help validate inbound port-forwarding rules, but it doesn’t do anything to help validate whether your client machine can reach the Internet on needed UDP or TCP outbound ports. (in other words, is some intervening firewall blocking you in the outbound direction at the TCP or UDP port level.)
http://www.firebind.com is the only web-based service on the Internet that can test your outbound connectivity over any of the 65535 TCP or UDP ports. Their is a browser-based javascript app on the home page (TCP only, with some ports restricted due to browser limitations) or even better you can choose the their Java Applet and test any UDP or TCP port.
There is a lot of confusion out there regarding these port validation type tools. Sites like grc.com, yougetsignal.com, and canyouseeme.org all are focused on the inbound direction, while firebind focuses on the outbound and checking whether any type of intervening device (whether it be a software firewall on your pc, your home firewall, your ISP’s firewall) is blocking your access to the Internet. (Note: it’s not a port scanner, it’s a path scanner.)
